Position Overview
The social mobilizer is responsible for the implementation, coordination development and reporting of the Adolescents Life Skills Program in the respective school (s). She would serve as the first point of contact for the school, parents, and scholars. This position will be field-based work in schools. The position will also involve regular interaction with government and community leaders, school administrators, parents, School Management Committee members, teachers, and scholars. The Social Mobilizer reports to the Officer, Gender, Equality Portfolio.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Program and Financial Management
- Develop a thorough understanding of Room to Read’s Gender, Equality Portfolio and Adolescent Life Skills Program design.
- Responsible for ongoing implementation of the Adolescents Life Skills Program under her jurisdiction, ensuring timely, efficient, and well-coordinated implementation, adhering to the program and budget guidelines
- Responsible for managing relationships with schools and community and responding to issues that may arise in these relationships.
- Organizing and facilitating events, l, field trips and other educational based forums.
- Facilitating life skills education sessions.
- Conduct coaching sessions with Program Focal Teachers to ensure the program activities are delivered to specified standards.
- Support the facilitation of educator’s training
- Conducting group and individual mentoring sessions
- Conduct material support need assessment as needed and appropriately, assist in material delivery to selected beneficiaries and monitor its usage
- Collect/ update alumnae contact information before beneficiaries’ graduate and monitor their progress on an ongoing basis
- Conduct periodic meetings with community members, parents, government and community leaders, heads of schools and teachers.
- Supports donor visits through demonstrating projects and presentation, as needed.
- Ensure effective utilization of program budget through proper planning and tracking of planned activities.
Reporting and Documentation
- Timely submission of Monthly Program Report and Quarterly Progress Report in desired format to program officer.
- Support collecting accurate data to be entered in online software (GSD)
- Maintaining and timely update of all field level records
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in education / social sciences or equivalent
- 3 years of relevant experience in the education sector
- Experience in facilitating life skills, mentoring and coaching
- Working knowledge and understanding of project management
- Strong planning and project implementation skills
- Ability to work in remote area
- Proven track record of achieving results
- Proven ability to work effectively with schools and communities and government
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Good interpersonal skills and a team player
- Knowledge of the following thematic areas- Life Skills/ gender/learning psychology- is preferred
- Child Protection Principles
Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) Principles
Room to Read Representatives must create and maintain an environment that prevents sexual exploitation and sexual abuse. Room to Read has zero tolerance for adult sexual exploitation and abuse. Sexual exploitation and abuse are serious violations of fundamental human rights and will not be accepted or tolerated. All adults should be treated with respect and dignity. Room to Read implements a survivor-centered approach, putting the survivor’s rights and dignity at the forefront. Survivors referred to available professional assistance (e.g. mental health counselling), upon consent.
