Job Summary
CNS Group is seeking an experienced and technically capable Road and Drainage Supervisor for a large scale sugarcane estate development project in Morogoro. The role is responsible for overseeing the construction, shaping, and maintenance of farm roads, drainage canals, and water management structures across the estate, ensuring all civil works meet engineering specifications, safety standards, and project timelines. The ideal candidate should possess solid knowledge of road construction and drainage works, strong supervisory skills, and the ability to coordinate effectively with survey and land development teams in a demanding field environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise the construction and maintenance of main farm roads, access tracks, and headland roads across the estate in accordance with approved designs and project specifications.
- Oversee the excavation and shaping of drainage channels, furrows, and soak pits, ensuring all drainage works are completed to the correct gradient and design specifications.
- Coordinate closely with the Surveyor for road alignments, drain gradients, and pegging activities to ensure accurate setting out of all civil works on the estate.
- Manage road labourers, grader operators, and excavator operators, ensuring all team members are productive, safe, and working in line with daily targets and operational plans.
- Ensure all earthworks conform to approved engineering drawings and design specifications, monitoring road camber, sub-base compaction, and drainage outlet conditions throughout all works.
- Ensure culverts and cross-drains are installed to the correct gradient and invert level, verifying all installations meet the project's engineering and quality standards.
- Control material use including murram, gravel, and culverts, maintaining accurate stock records and coordinating with the Storekeeper for timely material availability.
- Enforce Occupational Health and Safety standards and traffic management procedures on all active work sites throughout all phases of construction and maintenance activities.
- Prepare daily progress reports, equipment utilisation records, and material consumption reports, submitting all documentation accurately and on time to the Land Development Manager.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Certificate in Civil Engineering, Roads and Infrastructure, or Construction Supervision is preferred. A Diploma is an added advantage.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in road construction, drainage works, or civil earthworks supervision is preferred.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, road cross-sections, and drainage profiles is preferred.
- Knowledge of grader, compactor, and excavator operations is recommended.
- Understanding of road geometry, camber, super-elevation, and drainage gradients is recommended.
- Ability to use GPS devices and survey instruments for setting out road and drain alignments is recommended.
- Valid driving licence Class C or above is preferred.
- Agricultural or mining infrastructure experience is an added advantage.
