Background

Watoto Salama Foundation (WSF) is seeking a Project Officer – GEDSI.

Job Purpose

The Project Officer – GEDSI is responsible for ensuring that all project interventions are inclusive and non-discriminatory. This role will lead the mainstreaming of gender equality and social inclusion across all program sectors, conduct intersectional analysis, and adapt activities to ensure meaningful participation of women, girls, and persons with disabilities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mainstreaming: Integrate GEDSI principles into all project phases (assessment, design, implementation, and M&E).
  • Assessment & Analysis: Lead participatory gender and inclusion assessments to understand local power dynamics, barriers, and specific needs of vulnerable groups.
  • Accessibility: Ensure physical and informational accessibility of project activities and materials for persons with disabilities.
  • Capacity Building: Train project staff and partners on concepts of gender equity, intersectionality, unconscious bias, and disability-inclusive programming.
  • Safe Programming: Integrate prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse (PSEA) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) risk mitigation strategies into program activities.
  • Monitoring: Develop specific indicators to track the participation of women, men, boys, and girls with disabilities and provide data on inclusion.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Gender Studies, Sociology, Human Rights, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in gender mainstreaming or social inclusion in development/humanitarian projects.
  • Skills: Deep understanding of feminist approaches, intersectionality, and disability inclusion frameworks. Experience using tools like Gender Action Learning Systems (GALS) is an asset.
  • Competencies: Strong advocacy skills, diplomacy, and ability to challenge social norms effectively.
