BACKGROUND
WWF GEF Agency and WWF Tanzania are expanding WWF GEF portfolio in Tanzania and seek a Manager to lead country-level coordination, development, and portfolio oversight, in close collaboration with national government institutions and partners.
MAIN FUNCTION
The Manager is responsible for managing the WWF GEF portfolio in Tanzania, including:
- Project identification and design
- Oversight of implementation and compliance
- Coordination with government and partners
- Contribution to effective delivery of GEF-funded results at the national level
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1) National project origination and pipeline development
- Identify and develop WWF GEF Agency project opportunities in Tanzania in collaboration with government
- Lead preparation of concept notes and project documents where WWF acts as GEF Agency
- Ensure alignment with national priorities and GEF requirements
2) Project development and quality assurance
- Lead and coordinate the development of WWF GEF Agency projects through the full project cycle
- Provide technical guidance to ensure strong design and impact
- Ensure compliance with WWF and GEF policies during development
- Manage internal review and submission processes
3) Portfolio oversight and implementation support
- Oversee implementation of WWF GEF projects in Tanzania
- Support GEF projects executing partners in adaptive management and problem-solving
- Monitor delivery, risks, safeguards, and compliance
- Ensure timely reporting to WWF GEF Agency
4) Government and stakeholder engagement
- Serve as WWF Tanzania’s focal point for WWF GEF-related coordination with government
- Maintain strong working relationships with relevant ministries and institutions
- Facilitate alignment between projects and national strategies
5) Representation
- Represent WWF Tanzania and WWF GEF Agency in national GEF-related meetings and coordination platforms
6) Capacity development and technical support
- Build understanding of GEF processes among government, partners, and WWF Tanzania teams
- Provide targeted training and guidance on project design and implementation
7) Contribution to WWF GEF Agency
- Provide feedback to improve WWF GEF Agency tools and processes
- Share lessons learned from Tanzania portfolio
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education
- Bachelor’s degree and Master´s degree in environmental science, economics, public policy, or related field
Experience
- 6–8 years of relevant experience
- Strong experience in project design and management
- Experience working with government institutions in Tanzania
- Experience with GEF or similar multilateral funds
Skills and knowledge
- Strong analytical, coordination, and problem-solving skills
- Strong writing and reporting skills
- Ability to manage multiple priorities
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills
- Fluency in English and Swahili

- Results-oriented and able to work independently and deliver results under pressure

- Good judgement and decision-making
- Ability to work across institutions and teams
