Barrick Bulyanhulu Gold Mine is seeking a qualified Geological Assistant to join its geology team in Shinyanga, Tanzania. This role is ideal for candidates who are interested in gaining hands-on experience in mining geology, drilling operations, and field data management within a large-scale underground mining environment.

The successful candidate will support daily geological operations by assisting with drilling logistics, sampling activities, core preparation, and accurate data recording. The role requires strong attention to safety, discipline in field procedures, and the ability to work effectively in a physically demanding mining environment.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure strict adherence to safety procedures, including PPE usage, safety training attendance, and incident reporting.
  • Comply with all occupational health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Maintain adequate stock of drilling supplies, consumables, and safety equipment.
  • Assist with daily field drilling logistics in coordination with geologists and geology technicians.
  • Support sampling activities, including core marking, cutting, preparation, dispatch, and secure storage.
  • Ensure drill samples are collected according to standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain accurate geological data recording and proper documentation for QA/QC compliance.
  • Contribute to high-quality geological data delivery, including reporting irregularities to supervisors.
  • Perform accurate and timely data entry into geological systems.
  • Maintain organized filing systems for geological records and reports.
  • Conduct pre-start checks before beginning tasks or shifts.
  • Submit daily logs and reports to supervisors in a timely manner.
  • Maintain equipment, vehicles, and facilities according to operational standards.
  • Provide feedback to improve team performance and operational efficiency.
  • Assist with underground operations when required.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and departmental targets.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or Certificate of Secondary Education.
  • Certificate or Diploma in Geological Studies is an added advantage.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in mining, geology, or exploration activities.
  • Experience in underground mining and diamond drilling is an advantage.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving license and ability to operate manual transmission vehicles (mandatory).
  • Strong awareness of mining health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Knowledge of hazard identification and risk assessment procedures.
  • Strong communication skills in English (written and verbal).
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively in a team.
  • Physically fit and able to work in underground mining conditions.
