Responsibilities or duties
The key purpose of this role is to take ownership of the operational site’s safety and fleet management services.
The Fleet & Safety Supervisor will ensure that the company operates in compliance with applicable laws, ethical standards, the Occupational Health and Safety Act, the Road Transport Act, governance codes, ABInBev safety policies, ABInBev standards, and corporate governance requirements related to safety and fleet management.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
Safety and Legal Compliance
The Fleet & Safety Supervisor will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable safety, fleet, and legal requirements.
Key responsibilities include:
- Ensuring compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act of 1993.
- Ensuring compliance with the Road Traffic Act.
- Developing and maintaining site standards to minimize losses.
- Ensuring compliance with legal provisions such as:
- Occupational Health and Safety Act
- Environmental Act
- COVID Act
- Entrenching a strong safety culture across operations.
- Supporting and implementing SHE programmes.
- Ensuring site procedures and work instructions are maintained and followed.
- Ensuring safety risks are adequately addressed.
- Monitoring audits, surveys, and maintenance activities.
- Taking end-to-end ownership of safety standards, governance, and safety culture in operations.
Fleet Management
The role includes accountability for maintaining sustainable fleet standards at the site.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining sustainable fleet standards for the site.
- Ensuring daily stringent inspections of the depot fleet.
- Checking fleet compliance against legal and company requirements.
- Reporting daily fleet availability, including:
- Trucks
- Trailers
- FLTs
- MFLTs
- Understanding vehicle-specific maintenance and service requirements for all vehicle categories, including:
- Trucks
- Trailers
- Forklifts
- Warehouse cleaning equipment
- Ensuring good record keeping for fleet-related legal requirements.
- Maintaining records such as:
- Maintenance job cards
- Licensing history
- Pre-trip inspections
Risk Management and Stakeholder Collaboration
The Fleet & Safety Supervisor will be expected to manage operational hazards that may extend beyond the company’s site boundaries.
Responsibilities include:
- Identifying and managing business hazards that are not contained within perimeter fencing.
- Developing smart plans to manage safety and fleet-related risks.
- Working in collaboration with multiple stakeholders.
- Ensuring that risks are managed proactively and effectively.
DPO, VPO, and LCP Standards
The successful candidate will be responsible for executing and sustaining operational excellence standards.
Responsibilities include:
- Executing and sustaining the DPO Fleet and Safety Pillars.
- Participating in DPO Self Assessments.
- Supporting Zone DPO Audits.
- Executing DPO, VPO, and LCP means and standards.
- Driving innovation, benchmarking, and process improvement initiatives.
- Improving sustainable DPO, VPO, and LCP KPIs.
Asset, Master Data, and Inventory Control
The role also involves asset verification, master data management, and inventory controls.
Responsibilities include:
- Consolidating asset verification in line with the BRN.
- Owning master data requisitions and changes.
- Managing spare parts to ensure adherence to minimum and maximum stock levels.
- Managing spare parts inventory, including tyres.
- Ensuring adherence to inventory control processes.
- Conducting and supporting stock counts.
Budget and Workshop Management
The Fleet & Safety Supervisor will also manage cost control and workshop safety standards.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing expenditure against the budget.
- Managing VLC with monthly latest estimate alignment to period phasing.
- Ensuring workshop safety standards are maintained.
- Applying and sustaining 5S practices in the workshop.
- Reviewing maintenance SOPs to ensure safe practices are followed.
Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Relevant 3-year tertiary degree or diploma.
- 2 to 3 years of fleet functional work experience.
- Knowledge of the applicable Occupational Health and Safety Act.
- Knowledge of the Road Traffic Act.
- Governance knowledge.
- Business and financial acumen.
- Inventory control acumen.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Word.
- Knowledge of SAP.
- Strong demonstrated analytical ability.
- Health and safety knowledge.
- People management experience will be an added advantage.
