Background
Vodacom Tanzania Plc is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Financial Services Director to lead the growth and transformation of the M-Pesa business into Tanzania’s leading digital financial services platform. The role is central to driving financial inclusion, ecosystem expansion, innovation, and sustainable profitability across the mobile money and fintech landscape.
The successful candidate will hold full responsibility for the M-Pesa financial services portfolio, including strategy execution, revenue growth, product innovation, and overall business performance. This is a senior executive leadership role requiring deep expertise in fintech, digital payments, and large-scale financial ecosystems, with a strong focus on scalability, customer value creation, and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Define, develop, and execute the overall Financial Services (M-Pesa) strategy.
- Own and manage the full Profit & Loss (P&L) of the M-Pesa business unit.
- Drive sustainable revenue growth and profitability across all financial services offerings.
- Lead market expansion across payments, credit, savings, insurance, and digital financial products.
- Build and manage strategic partnerships with banks, fintech companies, merchants, and government institutions.
- Position M-Pesa as the leading digital financial services and payments platform in Tanzania.
- Lead the design, development, and rollout of innovative financial products and services.
- Drive customer acquisition, engagement, retention, and increased product usage.
- Leverage data analytics, digital channels, and technology to improve customer experience.
- Optimize pricing strategies to enhance revenue generation and competitiveness.
- Expand merchant and agent networks to strengthen market penetration.
- Ensure strong omnichannel distribution across all customer segments.

Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in financial services, fintech, telecommunications, banking, or executive leadership roles.
- Proven track record of leading large-scale digital financial services or payment platforms.
- Strong experience in P&L ownership and commercial business management.
- Demonstrated success in driving business growth and market expansion.
- Deep understanding of fintech ecosystems, mobile money platforms, and digital payments.
