The Business Development Service (BDS) Senior Officer/Officer position is responsible for delivering high-quality business development services to MSMEs under the bank’s enterprise development program. The role focuses on enterprise diagnostics, mentorship, coaching, business improvement planning, market and financial linkages, and monitoring the growth and performance of participating businesses to strengthen their competitiveness and long-term success.
Responsibilities
- Mobilize, screen, and enroll eligible MSMEs into the program in collaboration with bank branches and partners
- Conduct enterprise diagnostics to identify gaps in governance, operations, marketing, and financial management
- Carry out baseline assessments and develop business improvement and growth plans for MSMEs
- Deliver one-on-one mentorship and coaching to assigned businesses and monitor progress against agreed milestones
- Facilitate group mentorship sessions, business clinics, and learning events using adult learning principles
- Support MSMEs in improving recordkeeping, costing, pricing, cash flow management, and regulatory compliance
- Assist businesses in accessing suitable financial services, including bank accounts, digital channels, and credit facilities
- Facilitate market linkages with buyers, suppliers, trade fairs, and business networks
- Conduct endline assessments to measure business growth and performance improvements
- Prepare weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports on program performance and outcomes
- Document success stories, case studies, and lessons learned from program implementation
- Maintain accurate portfolio records and comply with quality assurance and reporting requirements
- Participate in the development and improvement of BDS materials, tools, and training curricula
- Develop and deliver business training, mentoring, and coaching content throughout the program lifecycle
Qualifications Required
- University Degree in Entrepreneurship, Business Management, Economics, Agribusiness, or a related field
- Higher Degree in Entrepreneurship, Business Management, Agribusiness, or related fields is an added advantage
- Minimum of 7 years of proven experience supporting MSMEs through training, mentorship, coaching, advisory services, and market or financial linkages
- Strong communication, facilitation, and coaching skills
- Knowledge and application of adult learning principles
- Excellent interpersonal, listening, and questioning skills
- Ability to work effectively with diverse business audiences
- Experience in enterprise diagnostics and business improvement planning
- Strong understanding of financial and business management concepts, including recordkeeping, costing, pricing, and cash flow management
- Ability to support MSMEs in adopting digital and ICT tools
- High level of integrity, initiative, discipline, and results orientation
- Strong reporting and data management skills
- Certified trainer qualification is preferred
- ILO SIYB (Start and Improve Your Business) certification is strongly preferred
- Certification in business training, mentorship, or coaching is an added advantage
- Experience working with financial institutions to facilitate MSME access to finance is an advantage
- Practical experience running or managing a business is an added advantage
