Responsibilities

Health, safety and environmental compliance

The Boilermaker will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and Barrick’s health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.

Plant maintenance and equipment inspection

The successful candidate will support daily maintenance, inspection, and repair activities for plant equipment and related mechanical systems.

Fabrication, welding and structural work

The Boilermaker will fabricate, assemble, repair, and maintain metal structures, equipment, and mechanical components.

Technical interpretation and repair work

The role requires the ability to interpret technical documents and carry out repairs according to required specifications.

Inventory, reporting and team coordination

The Boilermaker will help maintain continuity between teams and ensure proper documentation of work activities.

Candidates should have the following experience and competencies:

  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory and Barrick health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Report all Health, Safety and Environmental issues through an incident report.
  • Perform task risk assessments, including JHA and FLRA.
  • Adhere to isolation and lock-out permit procedures.
  • Adhere to workplace safety policies, regulations, and compliance requirements.
  • Maintain a clean and environmentally safe work area.
  • Apply the 5S principle in the workplace.
  • Ensure the plant operates within acceptable limits and report any deviations.
  • Attain and maintain relevant licenses and authorizations required to execute allocated duties, such as: Basic rigging, Working at heights, Machine operation, including forklift operation.
  • Conduct daily maintenance inspection and execution of plant equipment.
  • Ensure work completion details are finalized in accordance with work requirements and procedures.
  • Ensure mechanical tools and equipment are maintained and stored according to Barrick and OEM safety standards and procedures.
  • Perform high-quality planned and unplanned repairs of mechanical equipment in compliance with applicable codes, standards, safety, and environmental regulations.
  • Conduct regular plant and steel structure inspections.
  • Complete breakdown and preventive maintenance work orders on time.
  • Create subsequent notifications and provide feedback on work performed.
  • Clean, maintain, repair, and rebuild mechanical parts, components, and equipment as directed by the Supervisor.
  • Clean equipment using scrapers, wire brushes, and cleaning solvents to ensure equipment and work areas remain clean and tidy.
  • Fabricate and assemble metal structures and equipment using welders, cutters, shapers, and measuring tools.
  • Fabricate, weld, and install: Chutes, Boxes, Pipes, Reducers, Bends, Y pieces.
  • Repair and maintain metal equipment and structures of various sizes.
  • Apply best maintenance practices when repairing: Chutes, Steel tanks, Pipes, Steel structures.
  • Apply standard paint on new steel structures and repaired steel works.
  • Assess welded surfaces, structures, and components to identify errors.
  • Examine pressure vessels, tanks, chutes, and pipes to locate defects such as: Leaks, Weak spots, Defective sections.
  • Repair identified defects as required.
  • Fabricate, fit, and assemble structural components of various mechanical systems.
  • Perform basic mechanical fitting, rubber lining, scaffolding, and rigging works as instructed by the Supervisor.
  • Read and interpret diagrams, sketches, and blueprints to determine: Required operations, Required materials, Project time frames.
  • Understand technical drawings and manuals.
  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices using: Hoists, Cranes, Hand tools, Power tools.
  • Examine the form and texture of parts to determine repair or replacement requirements.
  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock levels.
  • Anticipate required equipment, parts, and supplies, and organize them with the Supervisor.
  • Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating: Actions taken, Irregularities identified, Continuing maintenance needs.
  • Take responsibility for shift handover within the assigned area of responsibility.
  • Perform any other task as instructed by the reporting line Supervisor.
  • Hazard identification and risk assessment skills.
  • Ability to understand technical drawings and manuals.
  • Ability to drive manual transmission or stick shift transmission vehicles.
  • Strong technical and strategic planning-related experience and background.
  • Ability to manage a diversified portfolio consistently in a high-pressure environment.
  • Highly professional conduct at all times.
  • Ability to deal with a diverse client base.
  • Significant base knowledge of all areas depicted in the profile.
  • Ability to operate with minimum supervision.

  • Technical or vocational school qualification.
  • Apprenticeship training or on-the-job training, such as: FTC, VETA, IMTT Trade Test.
  • Equivalent qualification.
  • Sound knowledge of mining safety regulations and best practices.
  • Working knowledge of equipment safety standards.
  • Excellent knowledge of welding machinery, electrical equipment, and manual tools.
  • Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
  • VETA Driving Certificate.
  • Valid Tanzanian driving license classes B, C, D, and E.
