Key job purpose

To ensure the effective, efficient, and safe operation of blower and filler machines in order to achieve maximum production output according to agreed production targets while maintaining quality, safety, and hygiene standards.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare machines for production and ensure proper start-up procedures are followed.
  • Ensure CIP (Clean-in-Place) and machine start-ups are completed correctly and within the required time.
  • Coordinate with the syrup room during machine start-up, batch changes, and shutdowns.
  • Operate machines while observing safety, hygiene, and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Ensure the availability of packaging materials, such as caps and preforms, before and during production.
  • Monitor and manage wastage to ensure the efficient use of materials.
  • Maintain the cleanliness of machines and surrounding work areas at all times.
  • Record all operational data during production and monitor equipment performance hourly.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance activities, including machine lubrication, and maintain proper records.
  • Reconcile material usage and production output after every shift.
  • Troubleshoot machine faults and report breakdowns or abnormal machine behavior to the Production Supervisor.
  • Ensure machines and conveyors are switched off when not in use.
  • Ensure all machine change parts are properly stored and kept clean.
  • Train and support other machine operators to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor in line with production objectives.

Qualifications and experience

  • Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or Electrical Engineering.
  • VETA Level 3 certification in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Experience working with Krones, Sidel, or KHS machines is highly preferred.
  • Previous experience in the beverage manufacturing industry is an added advantage.
  • Strong technical and troubleshooting skills.
  • High level of dedication to performance and operational efficiency.
  • Ability to communicate equipment issues clearly and promptly.
  • Strong teamwork skills and integrity when dealing with colleagues.
  • Commitment to maintaining high professional and operational standards.
