The role

Reporting to the Head of Research & Advisory, the Senior Research & Advisory Associate is a dual-mandate role combining corporate advisory transaction execution with investment research that moves markets.

You will work at the intersection of TSL’s most exciting business lines — Global Markets, Asset & Wealth Management, and Corporate Advisory — with real deal exposure, senior client access, and a platform to build a distinguished career in Tanzania’s capital markets.

Key responsibilities

Advisory and transaction execution

  • Lead and support execution of advisory mandates — IPOs, bond issuances, private placements, loan syndications, M&A, and corporate restructuring.
  • Prepare compelling pitch books, Information Memorandums (IMs), transaction teasers, and investor presentations that win and retain clients.
  • Conduct comprehensive financial due diligence, business valuations, and deal structuring analysis for client engagements.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with corporate clients, institutional investors, and strategic partners to originate and grow advisory mandates.
  • Support TSL Capital’s corporate finance advisory services including assisting companies in listings, rights issues, and private placements on the DSE.
  • Identify new business opportunities and contribute directly to TSL’s revenue growth through proactive client engagement and market origination.

Investment research and market intelligence

  • Produce high-quality equity research reports, sector analyses, company valuations, and macroeconomic outlooks for institutional and individual clients.
  • Build and maintain advanced financial models: DCF, Comparable Company Analysis, Precedent Transactions, LBO frameworks, and scenario/sensitivity analysis.
  • Monitor Tanzania’s capital markets, macroeconomic developments, and regional trends to generate timely and actionable investment insights.
  • Develop investment strategies and product positioning ideas to support Global Markets trading and Asset & Wealth Management portfolio decisions.
  • Ensure all research outputs comply with CMSA, DSE, and applicable regulatory standards — accurate, timely, and commercially relevant.

Client engagement and team leadership

  • Engage clients through research presentations, market briefings, investor roadshows, and one-on-one advisory discussions.
  • Collaborate with Global Markets, Asset & Wealth Management, and Advisory teams to deliver integrated, client-centred solutions.
  • Maintain and continuously improve TSL’s research databases, financial data systems, and analytical infrastructure.
  • Mentor and guide junior analysts, contributing to a culture of excellence, learning, and high performance within the team.

Qualifications and experience

Minimum requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, Business, or related field.
  • 3–5 years’ progressive experience in advisory, investment research, corporate finance, or capital markets.
  • Experience in commercial banking, stockbroking, asset management, or corporate advisory in Tanzania or the East African region.

Preferred qualifications and experience

  • Master’s degree or MBA.
  • Proven track record executing or supporting advisory transactions, including IPOs, bond issuances, private placements, and M&A.

Key competencies

Core skills

  • Expert financial modelling — DCF, Comparable Analysis, and Precedent Transactions.
  • High-quality research and report writing skills.
  • Knowledge of CMSA and DSE regulatory frameworks.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Fluency in English and Swahili.

Differentiating skills

  • Strong advisory instincts; ability to structure deals and engage clients confidently.
  • Self-starter with sharp analytical thinking and commercial awareness.
  • Collaborative team player with confidence to lead client engagements independently.
  • Genuine passion for Tanzania’s financial markets.
