People Project is recruiting on behalf of a growing mining company operating in Tanzania. As part of its continued exploration and resource development programme, the company is seeking an experienced Senior Geologist to lead geological exploration, resource definition, and grade control activities that support operational excellence and long-term mine development.
This is an exciting opportunity for a results-driven geologist with strong gold exploration experience who is passionate about discovering, evaluating, and developing mineral resources while working within a dynamic and growing mining operation.
Responsibilities
The Senior Geologist will provide technical leadership for exploration programmes, geological interpretation, drilling supervision, resource evaluation, and grade control activities. The successful candidate will ensure accurate geological data collection, maintain robust quality assurance standards, and provide reliable geological information to support mining, processing, and investment decisions.
General Responsibilities:
Exploration & Geological Programmes
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise geological mapping, sampling, trenching, drilling, and exploration programmes.
- Develop geological interpretations, exploration models, drilling targets, and recommendations for resource expansion.
- Design and implement exploration strategies to identify and evaluate mineralization opportunities.
- Monitor exploration progress and recommend programme adjustments based on geological findings.
Drilling & Resource Development
- Supervise reverse circulation (RC), diamond drilling, and other exploration drilling programmes.
- Coordinate drilling contractors to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality drilling operations.
- Ensure accurate core and sample logging, photography, storage, handling, and chain-of-custody procedures.
- Monitor drilling productivity, sample recovery, and geological data quality throughout exploration campaigns.
Geological Data Management & Interpretation
- Analyse geological, geochemical, geophysical, structural, and assay data to develop robust geological models.
- Build, maintain, and update geological databases, maps, cross-sections, and three-dimensional geological models.
- Support mineral resource estimation, mine planning, and grade control activities through accurate geological interpretation.
- Reconcile geological models with mining production and mineral processing results to improve operational performance.
Quality Assurance & Technical Reporting
- Design and oversee sampling programmes that comply with industry best practices.
- Implement and maintain rigorous Quality Assurance and Quality Control (QA/QC) procedures throughout exploration activities.
- Prepare technical reports, exploration updates, budgets, work programmes, feasibility inputs, and management presentations.
- Maintain comprehensive geological records suitable for technical audits, resource reporting, and future project development.
Health, Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure all exploration activities comply with health, safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.
- Maintain compliance with exploration licences, regulatory obligations, and company standards.
- Conduct field inspections, risk assessments, and safety briefings to promote a safe working environment.
- Identify geological risks and recommend further technical investigations to support informed operational and investment decisions.
Budgeting & Performance Management
- Prepare annual maintenance budgets, work plans, and resource forecasts.
- Monitor maintenance expenditure and identify opportunities for cost optimization without compromising reliability or safety.
- Produce weekly, monthly, and annual maintenance performance reports, including equipment availability, downtime analysis, and maintenance KPIs.
Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop junior geologists, field technicians, samplers, and drilling personnel.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary activities with surveyors, laboratory personnel, mining engineers, environmental specialists, consultants, regulators, and community relations teams.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performance culture focused on safety, technical excellence, and continuous improvement.
