Background

Ecobank Tanzania is seeking a Relationship Manager, SME for its Consumer & Commercial Banking department. This role is within the Commercial Banking – SME Segment and reports to the Area SME Head / Branch Manager. The role type is Business Development & Portfolio Management.

Role Purpose

To acquire, manage, and grow a portfolio of Small and Medium Enterprises (turnover 500k – 500k–10M). The RM provides working capital solutions, trade finance, and cash management services while ensuring profitability and low delinquency.

Key Responsibilities

Business Development: Prospect and onboard new SME clients through direct sourcing, referrals, and industry networks. Achieve monthly disbursement and fee income targets.

Portfolio Management: Manage a portfolio of 150–200 active SME relationships. Conduct annual reviews and identify cross-sell opportunities (e.g., term loans, business credit cards, insurance, merchant services).

Credit Initiation: Prepare initial credit application, collect financials, and present to credit analyst/committee. Recommend appropriate facility structure (limit, tenure, margin).

Monitoring: Track utilization, repayment discipline, and conduct periodic site visits. identify early stress indicators (e.g., delayed payments, inventory pile-up).

Compliance & KYC: Ensure all documentation (loan agreements, collateral perfection, personal guarantees) is complete and compliant with bank policies.

Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or Finance.

Experience:

  • 3–6 years in SME or commercial lending.
  • Proven track record in asset growth (e.g., $5M+ portfolio) with NPL
