Key responsibilities

The Officer – Systems and Applications Developer will:

  • Design, develop and maintain in-house software applications that support the school’s operations.
  • Work with departments across the school to understand business requirements and develop practical software solutions.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot and improve existing applications to ensure reliable performance.
  • Develop clean, secure and maintainable software in accordance with the school’s development standards.
  • Test, debug and review software to ensure quality and reliability.
  • Support system integrations with internal and third-party applications.
  • Create technical documentation, user guides and training materials.
  • Train users on newly developed systems and provide technical support when required.
  • Monitor emerging technologies and recommend improvements that enhance efficiency across the school.
  • Collaborate with the Corporate Applications team to resolve user support requests and continuously improve existing systems.

Qualifications and experience

Candidates should have:

  • A minimum of a Diploma in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related field.
  • Experience developing software applications using modern programming languages and frameworks.
  • A good understanding of software development principles, databases and system integration.
  • Experience developing web applications using:
    • PHP
    • Bootstrap
    • HTML
    • CSS
    • JavaScript
    • SQL
    • Relational databases
  • Experience working with:
    • jQuery
    • AJAX
    • RESTful APIs
    • Git version control
  • Experience troubleshooting software issues and maintaining business applications.
  • The ability to gather user requirements and translate them into software solutions.
  • Strong documentation, communication and teamwork skills.
  • Experience with software testing, debugging and version control, which will be considered an advantage.
  • A willingness to continuously learn about emerging technologies and industry best practices.
