1. PURPOSE OF THE JOB
To monitor accounts showing signs of concern, prevent deterioration into non-performing status, and implement effective recovery strategies for non-performing and written-off accounts.
2. PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES
2.1 Responsibilities
- Identify accounts exceeding sanctioned limits, expired facilities, or with incomplete compliance requirements.
- Drive achievement of recovery targets for NPL and written-off accounts.
- Engage customers through calls, meetings, and correspondence to agree on repayment plans.
- Recommend settlements, rescheduling, or compromise solutions where appropriate.
- Prepare management reports, Board papers, and regulatory submissions.
- Ensure compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
- Propose and support accounts for write-offs as per regulatory or other requirements.
- Propose and document accounts to be abandoned from the SAM portfolio because of exhaustive recovery or settlement processes.
- Coordinate internal and external audits and address audit findings.
- Identify accounts for legal action and liaise with legal teams.
- Represent the bank in court proceedings as required.
- Represent the bank in bank and court auctions.
- Manage External Debt Collectors (EDCs).
3. DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY
- Negotiate repayment plans with delinquent customers.
- Issue reminder letters and legal demand notices.
- Engage third-party recovery agents.
- Conduct customer visits to assess business performance.
Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Banking, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years' experience in a credit risk or recovery environment.
- Strong knowledge of legal and regulatory frameworks in banking.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills.
