STAMIGOLD Company Limited is seeking an Industrial Hygienist Officer to join their HSE / Quality Assurance department. This mid-level position reports to the Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Manager and is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and controlling workplace environmental hazards to ensure employee health and safety and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities or duties

Hazard Assessment: Conduct comprehensive workplace assessments to identify physical, chemical, biological, and ergonomic hazards (e.g., exposure to dust, noise, chemicals, or radiation).

Monitoring: Utilize specialized equipment to collect samples for the measurement of contaminants, noise levels, lighting, and ventilation.

Analysis: Analyze test results to determine the level of risk and compare findings against national/international occupational exposure limits.

Control Measures: Recommend and implement engineering controls, administrative controls, and PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) to mitigate identified risks.

Training: Develop and deliver training programs to employees and management regarding hygiene best practices, hazard communication, and safe handling of substances.

Health Surveillance: Participate in medical surveillance programs to monitor the health status of employees exposed to specific risks.

Compliance: Stay updated on local HSE legislation; ensure the organization complies with OSHA and other regulatory standards.

Reporting: Prepare detailed inspection reports and maintain records of monitoring data, incidents, and corrective actions.

Emergency Response: Act as a key responder for chemical spills, releases, or biological exposure incidents.

Qualifications or requirements (e.g., education, skills)

Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, or Chemistry.

Certification: A recognized HSE certification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, OSHA) is essential; Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is an added advantage.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in using monitoring equipment (noise dosimeters, gas detectors, sampling pumps) and data interpretation.

Competencies:

  • Strong analytical and scientific reasoning skills.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and training skills.
  • Proactive and assertive regarding safety compliance.

Experience needed

Experience: Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in an industrial, mining, or manufacturing environment.
