Job Summary

Ifakara Health Institute is seeking a qualified Field Worker to be stationed at Bagamoyo Office to support day to day laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the implementation and day to day running of a study under GLP standards.
  • Maintain equipment, facilities as and perform insectary duties as dictated by set of Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Ensure checking if equipment is in appropriate working order, room temperature recording, and reporting malfunctions to the insectary manager.
  • Feeding larval with approved food and adult mosquitoes by human arm and membrane (arm feeding)
  • Perform entomological field work as assigned by the insectary manager, Project leader and study coordinator.
  • Participate on mosquitos preparation for specified experiments following the SOPs
  • Attend any training that is required by the role.
  • To carry out additional reasonable duties as assigned by the insectary manager or supervisor.

Work Specification

  • Following insectary guidelines.
  • Following Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Maintenance of equipment in good order and custody.
  • Day to day maintenance of the IHI mosquito colonies by following SOPs.
  • Maintenance of strict cleanliness of the insectary at all times.
  • Accurate keeping of records as required under GLP standards.
  • Comply with weekly malaria screening
  • Regular maintenance tasks associated with containment of mosquitoes in insectary.
  • Assisting and implementing experiments.
  • Ensure compliance with all GLP protocols as stipulated in the SOPs, satisfy all safety requirements of laboratory environments, record data correctly and ensure proper disposal of waste.

Skills

Solid skills on mosquitoes rearing and parking for experiments.

Qualifications Required

Form four/Advanced Secondary Education or any related filed.

Experience

Strong expertise on mosquitoes rearing and parking for experiments process.

Preferred Language Skill

Strong communication skills both English and Swahili.
