Perseus Mining (Tanzania) Limited (SMLC) is seeking a Coordinator Planning and Reliability.

Reporting to the (Superintendent Planning and Reliability), The Coordinator Planning and Reliability is a key contributor to minimize equipment downtime, optimize life cycle costs, and enhance equipment reliability to maximize production. This role is responsible is responsible to Step-Up as required to cover for the Superintendent Planning and Reliability for the upkeep of the CMMS, ensuring that all preventive and breakdown maintenance are carried out in a timely and cost-effective manner. This position will also assist users and operations to conform to established maintenance plans and following up with plant item issues and component change outs on machinery. Maintenance planning will be performed as well as scheduling, reporting and documentation for all Plant, NPI, Mobile, Power Station & Ancillary equipment’s. The purpose of the role is also to participate in the development to optimize operations and maintenance strategies for plant equipment based on Failure Modes & Effect Analysis (FMEA), monitor asset health and analyze data to determine economic benefits and to prioritize the effort. Ensuring NDT and routine asset maintenance programs are adhered to for safety, operational performance, and insurance compliance. The role will provide coaching and training to planners/s , engineers/s on best practices.

Responsibilities or duties

Key Responsibilities:

Management of Safety, Environment, & Community Relations

  • Ensure all maintenance planning and engineering personnel attend Inductions and obtain regular updates if changes occur to policy or procedure
  • Ensure maintenance planning and engineering personnel have a clear understanding of required Occupational Health safety and environmental policies and procedures
  • Step-Up as required to ensure the maintenance planning and engineering team attends all relevant group Toolbox Meetings when on site
  • Contribute to department safety meetings and reports on safety occurrences
  • Actively promote a safety culture among all personnel and contractors
  • Enforce the HSE regulations that apply to the work area
  • Maintain a safe work environment and work practices within your area of responsibility
  • Actively promote and conduct formal and informal risk assessments
  • Step-Up as required to investigate all injuries, accidents and equipment damage thoroughly and ensure satisfactory standards of documentation for each takes place as soon as practicable
  • No LTI’s within maintenance department
  • Actively promote safety awareness/safety culture of processing staff
  • Ensure all contractors have read and completed contractor’s packages

People Management:

  • Assist with succession planning within the Department
  • Step-Up as required to Supervise the maintenance planning and engineering personnel, provide assistance and support as required
  • Coach and lead the planning and engineering team for quality system and procedural adherence and improvement
  • Step-Up as required to effectively manage staff by setting clear performance goals, providing regular feedback and development through structured training and mentoring
  • Ensure maintenance planning and engineering personnel on site are aware of their responsibilities and hold them accountable through the site management and disciplinary process
  • Provide support to supervisors for best practice of work order management
  • Enforce and maintain Company Code of Conduct and compliance with Company Standards, procedures, rules and guidelines
  • Operate in a team environment
  • Maintain effective communication between the maintenance and all internal and external stakeholders

Operations:

  • Step-Up as required to manage the maintenance planning and reliability function to ensure that good equipment reliability is obtained, and the work scheduling process is being performed and meeting targeted KPIs
  • Participate to prepare long term maintenance plan for shutdowns and a rolling yearly forecast of major component change outs according to the equipment maintenance strategies and Equipment Criticality
  • Continually review the work order history to optimize component change out intervals and eliminate recurring defects
  • Ensure that Pronto information is kept accurate and up to date with correct equipment history, PM optimization based on feedback and spares optimization which includes critical and insurance spares
  • Participate to prepare the maintenance annual budget (operating and capital) in conjunction with the maintenance manager & maintenance superintendent
  • Ensure all components and parts are on site four weeks prior to the scheduled component change out date
  • Ensure plant records classified up to date
  • Monitor, check and liaise with workshop personnel (both in-house & contractor workshops) to ensure that maintenance works are carried out as planned and scheduled
  • Actively coach and mentor planners and engineers to improve overall skill base and annual leave relief capabilities, inclusive of resource succession planning
  • Step-Up as required to the management of the planning and scheduling process of all Plant, NPI, Mobile, Power Station & Ancillary equipment maintenance through Pronto and make sure proper mid-life strategy is in place
  • Ensure that all relevant information is accurately recorded in electronic and paper format with its quality and integrity maintained
  • Participate to develop job procedures, and ensure all standard jobs are up-to-date and have all the necessary parts and labour identified to perform the task
  • Effectively manage the warranty claims and receipts ensuring site receives its due entitlements in accordance with agreed warranty conditions
  • Review the corrective maintenance actions to identify recurring defects that need to be eliminated
  • Co-ordinate the component rebuild process to ensure quality outcomes are achieved
  • Step-Up as required to manage the condition monitoring process to assist with maintenance planning and scheduling
  • Participate to develop a Predictive Maintenance (PdM) program: considering vibration analysis, thermography, oil analysis, ultrasonic thickness testing based on equipment criticality put in place
  • Assess the criticality of assets in place, develop and implement maintenance strategies for improving equipment reliability and processes
  • Ensure that any maintenance strategies that are recommended follow the equipment criticality logic and reflected accurately in the CMMS (Pronto)
  • Maintain the Equipment Criticality register put in place
  • Ensure an effective defect elimination process is implemented, and key production losses are recorded accurately
  • Analyse losses (production and cost) and facilitate Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) standards by using simple methods such as 5 Why’s, to identify failure cause and develop solutions with the support of Maintenance superintendent.
  • Report reliability performance metrics through Pronto and work out with scope system to a use of a dashboard that displays metrics such as Mean Time between Failures (MTBF), Mean Time to Repair (MTTR), scheduled vs. unscheduled downtime, Availability and/or Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) to verify that continuous improvement is occurring
  • Attend relevant business meetings as directed by the Maintenance Superintendent to understand i) proactive long-term operational priorities, ii) build forecast equipment down time business models
  • Continually search for methods to improve upon existing maintenance planning and work scheduling practices that fit within the business model and targets
  • Take direction from the Maintenance Superintendent
  • Any other duties as requested by the management

Qualifications or requirements

Essential

  • Ten (10) years maintenance planning experience
  • Ability to read vehicle and equipment manuals
  • Ability to read vendor manuals to decipher parts and equipment successfully
  • Pronto experience
  • MS Office experience
  • MS Project experience
  • Manual Driver’s license

Education Qualifications

  • Engineering or Industry related tertiary qualifications
  • Technical training for mine process plant equipment

Licences and Certification:

  • Trade qualifications or Diploma in a maintenance or other related field

Additional Information:

  • Prepared to undertake external training to complement the operation.
  • Incumbent may be expected to work outside Normal Working Hours on occasions.
