Job Summary
Ifakara Health Institute through Achieve Study is seeking a qualified and experienced Research Scientist to carry out and maintain established HPLC-based analytical methods for the quantification of insecticidal compounds, ensuring full compliance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards. The postholder will be directly responsible for operating and troubleshooting HPLC instrumentation, preparing samples, and generating high-quality, traceable data. This role supports both external client services and internal research projects, with a strong emphasis on accurate method execution, meticulous record-keeping, and adherence to regulatory and quality assurance protocols.
Responsibilities
- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot HPLC systems for the quantification of insecticidal compounds, ensuring all activities adhere to GLP standards.
- Implement and refine established HPLC methods, ensuring consistent performance, accuracy, and reproducibility.
- Prepare and process samples from insecticide-treated materials (e.g., bed nets), maintaining full traceability and chain of custody throughout.
- Maintain detailed and GLP-compliant documentation, including data forms, sample tracking logs, calibration records, and instrument maintenance reports.
- Author, update, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) specific to HPLC workflows, aligned with GLP documentation requirements.
- Provide hands-on training and supervision in HPLC techniques to staff, students, and apprentices, promoting best practices and GLP compliance.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external clients to schedule and execute HPLC-based analyses in support of project milestones.
- Support audit readiness by ensuring all HPLC operations meet regulatory and quality assurance standards; participate in inspections and reviews as required
- Record, analyse, and interpret data using validated software’s ensuring compliance with GLP data integrity principles.
- Prepare structured data reports and summaries for internal review and external clients, ensuring traceability and reproducibility.
- Contribute to scientific publications and regulatory submissions with GLP-compliant data packages.
- Maintain secure and auditable data storage systems.
- Prioritize and manage workload independently and collaboratively, ensuring timely delivery of GLP- compliant outputs.
- Maintain and update COSHH, risk assessments, and safety documentation in line with GLP and institutional policies.
- Promote inclusive practices and uphold safeguarding responsibilities.
- Undertake any other duties commensurate with the role and grade.

Essential Qualification
- MSc / PhD qualification in Chemical/Biological Sciences.

- Familiarity with insecticidal / pesticidal chemical classes.
Desired Experience
- Experience with HPLC and analytical chemistry.
- Experience in GLP-compliant laboratory environments.
Preferred Language
- Strong communication expertise both English & Swahili Language.
