Job Purpose Statement
To lead the Credit Control function by ensuring timely premium collection, effective management of debtor ageing, accurate reconciliation of intermediary and client accounts, creditworthiness assessment, and proactive mitigation of credit risk. The role safeguards cash flow, supports company and regulatory compliance, enforces approved credit terms, and partners with underwriting, claims, finance, sales, intermediaries and legal/recovery partners to resolve disputes, improve collections discipline and reduce exposure to bad debts.

- Develop and implement credit control strategies aligned to business cash-flow targets, approved credit terms, collection targets and risk appetite.
- Oversee premium invoicing follow-up, collection, payment allocation, receipting support and reconciliation of intermediary, direct client, corporate and bancassurance accounts.
- Conduct or review creditworthiness assessments for brokers, corporate clients, policyholders and other producers before recommending credit terms, limits, payment plans or suspension actions.
- Monitor debtor ageing, overdue premiums, claims recoveries, bounced payments and disputed balances; ensure timely escalation, resolution and recovery action.
- Prepare receivables dashboards, ageing analysis, collection performance reports, bad debt provisioning inputs and exception reports for management decision-making.
Operational Risk Management

- Identify, assess and report credit, process and operational risk events within approved timelines and ensure corrective actions are tracked to closure.
- Strengthen controls around credit vetting, account onboarding, account maintenance, dunning, payment plans, credit notes, refunds, write-offs, reversals and suspense-account clearance.
- Implement and monitor debt recovery procedures, including structured follow-up, recovery escalations, legal/recovery partner engagement and closure tracking for long-outstanding accounts.
- Drive process improvements and automation opportunities that reduce operational risk, improve collections discipline and enhance account visibility.
Audit & Compliance

- Ensure adherence to Credit Control Policy, premium collection procedures, cancellation/dunning requirements and approved escalation protocols.
- Support internal, external and regulatory audits by providing accurate credit-control records, reconciliations, ageing schedules and management responses.
- Ensure accurate and timely regulatory reporting relating to credit control, premium collections and outstanding debts where required by the Insurance Regulatory Authority or other approved channels.
- Track timely closure of audit, compliance and risk findings relating to credit control, receivables management and collections.
- Maintain complete documentation of correspondence, approvals, reconciliations, payment plans and recovery actions for audit defensibility.
People & Stakeholder Management

- Set clear objectives, KPIs and work plans for the credit control team and ensure alignment to business cash-flow, receivables and risk management goals.
- Coach and develop team members on collections discipline, account reconciliation, credit assessment, negotiation, stakeholder management, reporting and regulatory compliance.
- Monitor team productivity, service standards, quality of account follow-up and timely closure of disputes, escalations and audit actions.
- Lead structured engagement with brokers, agents, bancassurance partners, corporate clients and internal teams to resolve overdue balances, account queries and reconciliation gaps.

Ideal Job Specifications
Academic and Professional Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Commerce or a related field.
- Professional qualification such as CPA(K), ACCA or equivalent credit/finance certification.
- Membership in ICPAK, ACCA or another relevant professional body, where applicable, will be an added advantage.
- Diploma or professional qualification in Insurance such as AIIK/CII or Certificate of Proficiency will be an added advantage.
Work Experience:
- Minimum of 7 years’ relevant experience in credit control, accounts receivable, collections or credit management, preferably within general insurance or another regulated financial services environment.
- At least 3 years’ experience managing a credit control or receivables team, with exposure to broker/intermediary collections, debtor ageing, reconciliations, credit assessments, IFRS 9 provisioning, debt recovery and stakeholder escalations.
