We are looking for passionate individuals committed to delivering excellent patient care in a professional environment.
Position Summary
The Dental Therapist (DT) is a licensed mid-level oral health practitioner focused on preventive care, routine restorative procedures, and patient education. - Administer topical fluorides, silver diamine fluoride (SDF), and dental sealants to prevent decay.
- Perform prophylaxis (cleaning) and coronal polishing for patients classified as low-to-moderate risk.
- Take and develop radiographs (bitewings, PAs, and panoramic) for diagnostic review by the DDS.
2. Restorative Procedures (Under Supervision)
- Prepare and place direct restorations (Class I, II, III, IV, and V composite fillings) in primary and permanent teeth, as per state/provincial scope of practice.
- Perform prefabricated stainless steel crown (SSC) placements on primary molars.
- Re-cement temporary or permanent crowns and adjust occlusions.
- Perform atraumatic restorative treatment (ART) in community/outreach settings.
3. Emergency & Temporary Management
- Provide interim stabilization (IRM) for patients with fractured teeth or lost fillings.
- Palliative treatment for pulpal pain (placement of sedative fillings) pending definitive endodontic treatment by the DDS.
- Suture removal and postoperative evaluation of surgical sites.
4. Patient Education & Behavior Management
- Educate patients on oral hygiene techniques, dietary counseling (caries risk management), and tobacco cessation.
- Develop and implement customized oral care plans for patients with high caries risk or special needs.
- Utilize behavior management techniques (tell-show-do) for pediatric and anxious patients.
5. Clinical Collaboration & Referral
- Review treatment plans with the supervising DDS; refer patients to the DDS for procedures outside the DT scope (implants, complex endo, osseous surgery).
- Assist the DDS during complex procedures by retracting tissue, suctioning, and preparing materials.
- Liaise with hygienists and assistants to ensure smooth patient flow.
6. Community Outreach & Administration
- Lead school-based sealant programs and community health fairs.
- Maintain accurate clinical charting and progress notes in the electronic health record (EHR).
- Ensure operatory stocking and maintenance of dental equipment.
Qualifications or requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Dental Therapy (BDT) or Associate degree in Dental Hygiene with an advanced Dental Therapy certification; or completion of an accredited Dental Therapy program (e.g., Advanced Dental Therapy Program).
Licensure: Active state/provincial Dental Therapist license or registration.
Certifications: Current BLS certification; Nitrous Oxide monitoring certification preferred.
Experience needed
Experience: Minimum 1 year of clinical experience preferred; new graduates with strong clinical portfolios accepted.
Skills:
