POSITION Tradesperson 1 - UG Mechanic

DEPARTMENT Assets Management & Engineering

LEVEL 1M / C1

LOCATION Geita Gold Mine Tanzania

EMPLOYMENT STATUS Full Time

OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

Successfully help deliver the planned maintenance regime, fulfilling statutory obligations, while also providing a breakdown reactive response that harmonizes both customer and organizational requirements.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Take reasonable care to protect personal health and safety and that of others who may be affected by any act or omission during the performance of duty.
  • Be proactive in all aspects of operational safety and work as a team member within the Engineering department.
  • Perform mechanical diagnostics on equipment and other machines to identify faults.
  • Repair mechanical and electronic faults in Jumbos, Solos, CAT machines, trucks, loaders, ITs and Normet machines, replacing damaged or faulty parts where necessary.
  • Perform checks and tests to verify the success of repair work and assemble and install mechanical and electronic systems in equipment.
  • Maintain and repair various kinds of petrol and diesel engine motor vehicles.
  • Maintain regular liaison with the maintenance planner to order parts and equipment as necessary.
  • Conduct inspections on equipment to identify damage or defects, document findings in the inspection register, and submit to the supervisor for further action.
  • Execute all assigned mining equipment maintenance tasks following approved work procedures.
  • Ensure all tasks are performed safely according to GGM Safety Standards procedures.
  • Repair equipment and report completion of tasks to the Senior Supervisor.
  • Ensure work is performed to OEM standard, and that quality of work increases uptime after equipment is released to production.
  • Plan work before execution.
  • Maintain good housekeeping.
  • Work additional hours when assigned by the supervisor based on production priorities.

Qualifications or requirements 

Education & Qualification

  • VETA Trade Test Certificate Grade One/Level Three in Mechanic Engineering
  • Diploma or FTC in Mechanical or Automotive Engineering

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Principles and techniques for working with groups and fostering effective team interaction to ensure teamwork is conducted smoothly.
  • Principles and practices of administration, including goal setting, procedure development, implementation, evaluation, and work standards.
  • Organizational skills and ability to work as part of a team.
  • Commit best endeavours and full capability to work assigned by the supervisor.
  • Advise the supervisor of any situations or conditions that could create obstacles to, or opportunities for, the work of the managerial team or company.
  • Demonstrate work behaviours consistent with company values, policies, and prescribed legal requirements.
  • Team player who can also work independently.
  • Mandated to stop unsafe work.
  • Ability to act as a supervisor when assigned.
  • Build work relationships with team members in functional departments.

Experience needed

Three years' experience and above working on underground equipment including Caterpillar truck and loader, Sandvik Truck TH663i and Loader LH6621i, Normet, drill rigs DD421 and DL421-15c, Cable Bolter DS422i, and Cubex DU411.

Previous experience in a similar role or time spent working on mechanical components on the equipment.
