Job Purpose

The Technical Specialist – UG Auto Electrical will provide specialist maintenance and repair support for underground heavy mining equipment, particularly equipment fitted with RCT systems. The role will ensure equipment meets OEM standards, operates safely and efficiently, and support the development and skills transfer of national auto-electricians.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide advanced maintenance and repair support for underground heavy mining equipment, with a focus on RCT systems.
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on remote systems and electrical components.
  • Train, coach and transfer technical skills to national auto-electricians.
  • Monitor and report on the development and progress of trainees and team members.
  • Conduct diagnostic electrical tests and provide specialist technical advice to the Underground Engineering Superintendent.
  • Coordinate parts ordering and liaise with planners, agents and equipment manufacturers to resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Complete all required maintenance and repair documentation.
  • Ensure effective repair and maintenance of vehicles and plant, including petrol and diesel-powered equipment.
  • Maintain high standards of safety and ensure work is performed in accordance with approved procedures and OEM requirements.

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and Professional Qualifications

  • Applicants should have:
  • A recognized trade certificate in Auto Electrical work, Air Conditioning and Radio Communication.
  • A Trainer/Coach qualification or certification/diploma is preferred.

Experience

  • 8–10+ years of experience in heavy underground mining equipment maintenance.
  • Experience developing and implementing detailed maintenance strategies for underground equipment.
  • Proven experience in training and coaching technical personnel.

Technical Knowledge and Skills

  • Candidates should demonstrate:
  • Extensive knowledge and practical experience with RCT systems.
  • Strong ability to repair and maintain a wide range of mobile and stationary mining equipment.
  • Ability to safely and correctly operate tools, machinery and equipment.
  • Strong fault-finding and problem-solving skills using approved work methods.
  • Good written and spoken English communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate daily work and maintenance logs.
  • Strong knowledge of workplace safety requirements.
  • Teamwork, leadership and supervisory skills.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
  • Good job knowledge and attention to detail.
  • Understanding of budgeting and cost control.
  • Effective stress and time management.
