Job Opportunity: Production Team Leader

Our client, a leading manufacturer and distributor of innovative plastic packaging solutions in East Africa, is looking for a Production Team Leader. This role involves overseeing operations and supporting safety, quality, productivity, cost, equipment, and engagement within a shift-based environment. The leader is responsible for organizing resources for the setup of materials, equipment, machine operation, and ensuring finished goods are delivered to stores in accordance with production planning.

Role Overview

Position: Production Team Leader

Location: Dar Es Salaam

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Monitor daily production output against approved production plans.
  • Ensure maximum productivity and efficient use of resources.
  • Supervise and coordinate shift manpower and machine operations.
  • Ensure adherence to shift schedules and work plans.
  • Conduct daily machine inspections and autonomous maintenance.
  • Monitor equipment performance and production parameters.
  • Control product quality and minimize rejection rates.
  • Ensure proper handling and conformity of finished products.
  • Maintain accurate production records and shift reports in ERP.
  • Ensure timely closure of all production jobs in the system.
  • Train, coach, and upskill production team members.
  • Promote safety compliance and good housekeeping standards.
  • Drive continuous improvement and Kaizen initiatives.
  • Identify and propose process and operational improvements.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Skills & Requirements

  • Education: Diploma in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of four (4) years’ relevant experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in a supervisory role within the plastics industry.
  • Technical Knowledge: Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and processing operations.
  • Best Practices: Knowledge of TPM (Total Productive Maintenance), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), Kaizen, and continuous improvement practices.
  • Machinery: Ability to operate, diagnose, and troubleshoot production machinery (multi-skilled).
  • Soft Skills: Strong decision-making, problem-solving, planning, coordination, and interpersonal skills.
  • Traits: Adaptable, assertive, and proactive personality with high integrity and empathy.
