Job Purpose
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the shift team in the Front End production area to ensure production parameters and standards are met in a safe and efficient manner.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and supervise the daily work and performance of each employee on the assigned shift, organize schedules, and assign work activities to achieve team and company objectives safely.
- Together with the teams, achieve shift, daily, weekly, and monthly performance targets for the Front End production area by ensuring tasks are prioritised and planned in a logical, systematic, and cost-effective way to optimise profitability.
- Together with the Production Shift Manager, develop the budget for the Front End production factory area with the Factory Head and Finance Business Partner, and manage costs effectively.
- Monitor performance and support and advise teams in solving problems and taking corrective action.
- Monitor standards for setting, operating, and maintaining equipment, ensuring instructions are adhered to.
- Identify areas where production performance and quality management can be improved and manage the implementation of systems and processes to make improvements.
- Provide technical and process guidance to respective teams.
- Leverage available support from the Illovo Group (Head Office and other countries).
- Ensure continuous improvement by implementing functional best practices and conducting physical inspections.
- Identify learning and development needs within the team and manage training through business partnership.
- Inspect critical equipment and ensure adherence to minimum standards.
- Support country/site reactive maintenance needs.
- Ensure continuous improvement by implementing functional best practices and conducting physical inspections.
- Work with Maintenance teams to solve problems and promote cross-functional engagement and teamwork.
- Ensure reporting is compliant with company policy and procedure.
- Provide input into best practices, frameworks, and minimum standards within the function through the Head Office platform, and provide additional opportunities for problem identification and knowledge sharing.
- Identify and monitor KPIs for the Front End production area to track performance and flag any issues.
- Verify delivery and maintenance of agreed Food Safety and Quality standards and specifications at shift level.
- Carry out root cause analysis of complex non-conformance and propose actions to address them.
- Propose, deliver, and review the effectiveness of internal planning and update where required.
Required Skills
Qualifications and Experience
- Diploma or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience in production and maintenance, preferably in the sugar industry.
- Minimum of 2 years' supervisory experience.
- Ability to work methodically and systematically in a sugar mill environment.
- Ability to multitask.
