The Manager Public Sector position, based at the Head Office in Dar es Salaam, is responsible for managing and growing the bank’s government and institutional banking portfolio. The role focuses on developing relationships with central and local government institutions, supporting business growth in Zanzibar, driving revenue generation, and ensuring the delivery of tailored financial solutions that meet client needs while contributing to the bank’s strategic objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of existing Institutional Banking clients to ensure portfolio growth and client retention
  • Develop new business opportunities with government institutions and private organizations in Zanzibar, including Unguja and Pemba
  • Work closely with other business units to drive the Institutional Banking strategy
  • Acquire new institutional clients and support key projects
  • Offer financial solutions including payment and collection services to institutional clients
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and execute account plans
  • Support the preparation of Requests for Proposals (RFPs) and pricing proposals
  • Develop long-term Institutional Banking penetration plans for Zanzibar
  • Conduct market intelligence and advise management on ongoing and upcoming government and development projects
  • Support the Cluster Manager – Zanzibar on institutional banking matters
  • Identify and develop a strong pipeline of profitable institutional clients
  • Promote cross-selling opportunities across the bank’s products and services
  • Gather information required for credit assessment and application processing
  • Manage customer expectations throughout the lending and service delivery process
  • Develop prudently priced assets and cost-effective liabilities to maximize profitability
  • Serve as the bank’s primary contact person for institutional customers
  • Mentor and support Relationship Managers in executing corporate banking strategies
  • Handle customer complaints and ensure timely resolution
  • Provide accurate and timely support to branches
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with employers and key decision-makers
  • Drive portfolio growth, deposit mobilization, and income generation targets
  • Perform any other duties assigned by supervisors

Qualifications required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field
  • 3 to 5 years of experience in banking, preferably in Corporate Banking or Institutional Banking
  • Strong understanding of credit analysis and corporate lending principles
  • Proven sales, business development, and relationship management skills
  • Strong cross-selling and upselling capabilities
  • Ability to analyze financial statements and cash flow reports
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management abilities
  • Ability to identify and develop business opportunities within the public sector
  • Strong customer service and problem-solving skills
