Position Overview
The MEAL Assistant (Volunteer) will support the Tanzania country program by assisting in monitoring, evaluation, accountability, and learning activities. The role focuses on supporting data collection, data management, reporting, and community feedback mechanisms to strengthen program quality and impact.
Key Responsibilities
Monitoring & Data Collection
- Support routine monitoring activities at school and community level in Tanzania project sites.
- Assist with administering surveys, assessments, focus group discussions, and key informant interviews.
- Support collection of accurate, timely, and high-quality program data in line with MEAL plans.
Data Management & Reporting
- Assist with data entry, verification, cleaning, and basic analysis using Excel and digital data collection tools (e.g. KoboToolbox, ODK).
- Support preparation of monthly and quarterly MEAL inputs for internal and donor reports.
- Maintain organized MEAL databases, files, and documentation for the Tanzania program.
Evaluation & Learning
- Support baseline, midline, and endline evaluations for Tanzania projects.
- Assist in documenting lessons learned, best practices, and success stories from the field.
- Participate in learning and reflection sessions with program teams.
Accountability
- Support implementation and documentation of community feedback and complaints mechanisms.
- Assist in tracking, analyzing, and reporting feedback from beneficiaries and stakeholders.
General Support
- Work closely with program and field staff to support evidence-based programming.
- Undertake any other MEAL-related tasks as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma (or currently pursuing) in Monitoring & Evaluation, Development Studies, Statistics, Social Sciences, Economics, or a related field.
- Basic understanding of MEAL concepts and tools.
- Previous volunteer or internship experience in NGO or community development work is an added advantage.
- Familiarity with Excel and mobile data collection tools is desirable.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong attention to detail and data quality.
- Good analytical, organizational, and time-management skills.
- Ability to work in rural and community settings in Tanzania.
- Good written and verbal communication skills in English; Kiswahili proficiency is required.
- Willingness to travel to project sites when required.
