Job Summary

RETOMINING Investment Limited is seeking a detail-oriented, analytical, and experienced Finance and Accounting Officer to join our team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial and accounting records, supporting financial planning and reporting, monitoring revenues and expenditures, managing payables and receivables, assisting with budgeting and cash-flow management, and ensuring full compliance with Tanzanian tax laws, accounting standards, and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

  • General Ledger & Financial Accounting
    • Maintain complete, accurate, and up-to-date daily accounting records, ledgers, and journals.
    • Prepare payment vouchers, receipts, invoices, and ensure all transactions are properly authorized with supporting documents.
    • Assist in preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and maintain structured physical/electronic filing systems.
  • Accounts Payable & Receivable Management
    • Process supplier invoices, verify against purchase orders/delivery notes, maintain supplier ledgers, and manage payment schedules.
    • Issue customer invoices, monitor outstanding balances, perform customer reconciliations, and prepare aging reports in collaboration with the Sales team.
  • Cash, Bank & Payroll Oversight
    • Perform regular bank reconciliations, monitor cash flow availability, and manage petty cash disbursements and periodic counts.
    • Support monthly payroll preparation, verify attendance, overtime, deductions, and manage statutory payroll filings with strict confidentiality.
  • Tax & Statutory Compliance
    • Assist in ensuring full compliance with Tanzanian tax obligations (VAT, Withholding Tax, PAYE, SDL, etc.).
    • Prepare necessary documentation for Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) filings, support audit inquiries, and reconcile tax accounts.
  • Cost Control & Operational Accounting
    • Track operational expenditures associated with granite mining, including fuel, spare parts, equipment maintenance, transport, and labor.
    • Work with stores/warehouse teams to conduct periodic inventory counts, verify stock valuations, and reconcile asset ledgers.
    • Maintain an updated Fixed Asset Register recording asset acquisitions, transfers, maintenance, and depreciation.
  • Budgeting, Reporting & Internal Controls
    • Monitor actual expenses against approved departmental budgets, highlighting variances and cost-saving opportunities to management.
    • Support the enforcement of internal financial controls to prevent fraud, unauthorized spending, or loss of company resources.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Essential Qualifications
    • Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or Business Administration (Accounting/Finance) from a recognized institution.
    • Professional Qualification: CPA(T) or equivalent certification is an added advantage.
    • Technical Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (formulas, financial modeling) and accounting/ERP software.
    • Regulatory Knowledge: Solid knowledge of Tanzanian tax laws, statutory requirements, and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).
  • Preferred Experience
    • Experience in one or more of the following areas will be highly advantageous:
      • Accounting within mining, quarrying, manufacturing, construction, or heavy industrial sectors.
      • Operational cost control, inventory/stock accounting, and fixed asset management.
      • Statutory tax filings, payroll administration, and internal/external audit support.
