About AMUCTA
Archbishop Mihayo University College of Tabora (AMUCTA), a constituent college of St. Augustine University of Tanzania, invites applications from suitably qualified and competent Tanzanians for the position of Assistant Laboratory Technician.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Assisting in receiving, registering and identifying patients and laboratory specimens.
- Collecting, receiving, labeling and handling blood, urine, stool and other clinical specimens as directed.
- Assisting in carrying out routine laboratory tests under the supervision of a qualified laboratory professional.
- Preparing laboratory equipment, reagents and materials required for routine investigations.
- Cleaning, disinfecting and maintaining laboratory equipment, work surfaces and working areas.
- Assisting in preparing and properly storing reagents, specimens and other laboratory materials.
- Ensuring proper handling, storage and disposal of laboratory waste in accordance with health and safety procedures.
- Assisting in maintaining accurate laboratory records, registers and reports.
- Reporting damaged equipment, expired reagents, shortages and other laboratory-related problems to the supervisor.
- Observing infection prevention and control measures and maintaining laboratory safety standards.
- Assisting in maintaining confidentiality of patient information and laboratory results.
- Supporting inventory-taking and monitoring the availability of laboratory supplies.
- Assisting qualified laboratory personnel in providing efficient and timely laboratory services to patients.
- Performing any other duties related to laboratory services as assigned by the Doctor-in-Charge.
Qualifications and Experience
- Certificate in Medical Laboratory Sciences, Medical Laboratory Technology or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Basic knowledge and practical skills in clinical laboratory procedures, specimen handling, laboratory equipment and safety procedures.
- Relevant practical or working experience in a medical laboratory, health centre, hospital or dispensary is an added advantage.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively under supervision and as part of a healthcare team.
- Professional ethics, confidentiality, and infection prevention and control awareness.
- Registration with the relevant professional regulatory authority, where applicable, is an added advantage.
