OBJECTIVE OF THE ROLE

The overall purpose of the role of Technician 2 – Exploration within the Exploration Section is to provide support on geological and geotechnical exploration activities which involve field campaigns, drilling programs and other technical functions at Core Yard. The role focuses specifically on technical fieldworks, data collection and other operational exploration tasks to ensure safe, efficient and compliant exploration operations. The role holder reports to Supervisor – Core yard and collaborates with geologists, mining operations, mining technical personnel and geology contractors.

ROLE ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Lead HSE compliance through toolbox meetings, hazard identification, and control implementation.
• Conduct field geological mapping; assist with sample collection and record geological and GPS data.
• Oversee drill site preparation and drilling activities, including rig setup/alignment, core recovery documentation, and RC sampling practices.
• Perform Core Yard geotechnical logging and basic geological logging to support interpretations.
• Support geophysical surveys by preparing grids, setting up equipment and cables, and logging data with quality control.
• Monitor downhole survey quality, manage sampling and lab preparation, communicate progress, stop work if unsafe, and coach subordinates.

ROLE REQUIREMENTS

Education & Qualification

• Diploma in Geology or Geoscience related fields.
• Extensive equivalent field experience in the same field for Secondary School Certificate holders.
• Tanzanian Citizen.

Experience

• Minimum of 3-5 years of working experience for Diploma holders.
• Over 7 years working experience in exploration drilling environments, geotechnical logging, and field data collection for Secondary School holders.

Knowledge & Skills

• Computer literacy (MS Excel and MS Word).
• Proficient verbal and written communication skills.
• Good experience in exploration drilling operations, geotechnical logging, and field data collection.
• Good understanding and strong commitment to HSE practices and operational standards.
• Driving experience with valid Tanzanian driving license.
• Able to work with minimal supervision.
• Able to co-ordinate and lead small teams at the workplace.
