DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist the PIs in developing research protocols and pretesting and piloting data collection tools.
- Participate in developing the capacity of junior project staff including training of local data collectors.
- Plan and supervise data collection.
- Personally, contribute to the data collection in the field.
- Periodically conduct quality checks of the data.
- Liaise with local PI and the data management team for prompt data collection, transmission, and processing.
- Assist to monitor the data routinely to ensure saturation of the salient data themes.
- Participate in write up of manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed journals.
- Contribute in preparation of progress and final evaluation report(s).
- Ensure proper utilisation of the project resources and properties (including funds and vehicles).
- Liaise with senior RTI-Tanzania staff in completing financial reports.
- Liaise with project designers to supervise workshops and other project activities.
- Play an active part in promoting the scientific life at RTI-Tanzania.
- Report regularly to the PI on the progress of the research and undertake such other tasks as may reasonably be expected by the PIs and the director of RTI-Tanzania.
QUALIFICATION AND COMPETENCE:
- A Masters qualification in Public Health, Epidemiology, Education, Sociology, Anthropology, Social Work, Psychology.
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in coordinating/managing research teams.
- A thorough understanding of quantitative and qualitative methods of data collection.
- Demonstrable commitment to improving the life of children affected by abuse and poverty.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Kiswahili.
- To work as part of multidisciplinary research team.
- Computer literacy, proven managerial, organizational and report-writing skills.
- Experience writing peer review publications.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.
- Commitment to working as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA FOR SELECTION
- Experience in working with adolescents, children and parents in the areas of Child development and mental health.
- Experience in working in rural and urban communities with low illiteracy.
- Ability to communicate in Kiswahili and English.
TERMS OF SERVICE: Six-month contract with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding availability.
DUTY STATION: The successful candidate will report to the RTI-Tanzania offices in Mwanza but will spend their time in the data collection sites.
