Background

The Tanzania Atomic Energy Commission (TAEC) is the national regulatory authority responsible for ensuring the safe use of atomic energy and radiation technologies in Tanzania. Its mandate is to protect workers, patients, the public, and the environment by enforcing radiation safety standards across all sectors where radiation is used.

TAEC is currently recruiting 28 Radiation Safety Inspectors on an internship basis to support radiation regulation and safety monitoring activities across multiple locations in Tanzania. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with national radiation protection laws and strengthening safety oversight in both public and private institutions.

Responsibilities

The position involves conducting inspections of radiation facilities, monitoring compliance with safety regulations, and performing radiation measurements and environmental assessments. Inspectors will also prepare technical reports, document compliance findings, and advise institutions on safe handling, storage, and disposal of radioactive materials.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Radiography, Nuclear Physics, Radiation Protection, Nuclear Science and Technology, or a related field
  • Registration with the relevant professional board in the relevant discipline
  • Good communication and report writing skills
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Conducting radiation safety inspections at facilities using ionizing and non-ionizing radiation
  • Enforcing radiation protection regulations and safety standards
  • Performing radiation measurements and environmental monitoring
  • Preparing detailed inspection and compliance reports
  • Advising institutions on proper handling and disposal of radioactive materials
  • Good communication skills
  • Report writing skills
  • Basic computer literacy
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Radiography, Nuclear Physics, Radiation Protection, Nuclear Science and Technology, or a related field
  • Registration with the relevant professional board in the relevant discipline
