People Project Co. is recruiting on behalf of a growing mining company operating in Tanzania that is expanding its mineral processing operations and seeking an experienced Plant Manager – Mineral Processing Plant to lead plant performance, production optimization, safety, and operational excellence.

This senior leadership role is ideal for a professional with extensive experience in mineral processing, metallurgy, plant operations, and team leadership within mining environments. The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day plant operations while ensuring production, recovery, maintenance, quality, safety, and cost targets are consistently achieved.

Position Overview

The Plant Manager will lead operational strategy, metallurgical performance, maintenance coordination, and continuous improvement initiatives while developing a high-performing operations team and maintaining compliance with health, safety, environmental, and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Plant Operations & Production

  • Lead daily mineral processing plant operations.
  • Achieve production and recovery targets.
  • Develop production plans and operating procedures.
  • Maximize plant throughput and product quality.
  • Minimize downtime and operational costs.
  • Monitor crushing, grinding, screening, gravity concentration, and leaching processes.
  • Analyze production and metallurgical performance data.
  • Prepare operational reports and performance forecasts.

Process Improvement & Technical Excellence

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Monitor metallurgical performance and implement corrective actions.
  • Maintain production reconciliation and metallurgical records.
  • Support plant expansion, commissioning, and optimization projects.
  • Ensure operations align with industry best practices.

Maintenance & Asset Management

  • Collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams.
  • Develop preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Improve equipment availability and reliability.
  • Monitor fuel, power, water, chemical, and reagent consumption.
  • Coordinate with equipment suppliers and contractors.
  • Ensure technical compliance and operational reliability.

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead and develop supervisors, operators, technicians, and support staff.
  • Build a culture focused on operational excellence and accountability.
  • Conduct workforce planning and succession development.
  • Promote collaboration between operations, maintenance, geology, laboratory, and engineering teams.

Health, Safety & Environmental Management

  • Drive a strong safety culture across operations.
  • Ensure compliance with mining, health, and environmental regulations.
  • Lead risk assessments and incident investigations.
  • Implement safety improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure environmental controls and statutory obligations are maintained.

Qualifications

Education

Applicants should possess:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Professional registration or membership with a recognized engineering or mining body will be an added advantage.

Experience

Candidates should have:

  • 8 to 10 years of mineral processing experience.
  • At least 3 years in a Plant Manager, Senior Plant Superintendent, or similar leadership position.
  • Previous gold processing experience is highly preferred.
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams within mining operations.
  • Experience in production planning, metallurgical accounting, maintenance coordination, and budgeting.
  • Exposure to plant commissioning, process optimization, or expansion projects is advantageous.
  • Experience within Tanzania or the East African mining sector is highly desirable.
