The Community Wildlife Management Areas Consortium (CWMAC) is a national organization dedicated to strengthening community-based wildlife conservation and sustainable natural resource management across Tanzania. The organization works with Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs), government institutions, development partners, and local communities to promote biodiversity conservation, sustainable livelihoods, and effective governance of wildlife resources.

The Partnership and Fundraising Officer position is a strategic role responsible for leading resource mobilization efforts, developing donor relationships, securing grants, and supporting the long-term sustainability of CWMAC’s conservation initiatives. The role works closely with the CEO, Impact Manager, Programmes Team, and Monitoring & Evaluation staff to attract funding from institutional donors, conservation foundations, bilateral agencies, and private sector partners while ensuring compliance and effective grant management.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Develop and manage a comprehensive fundraising strategy and funding pipeline
  • Identify funding opportunities from bilateral donors, multilateral agencies, conservation foundations, and private sector partners
  • Lead the full proposal development process from concept notes to final grant applications
  • Collaborate with programme, M&E, and management teams to prepare high-quality funding proposals
  • Proactively identify new grant opportunities and requests for proposals relevant to community conservation and wildlife management
  • Ensure all funding submissions meet donor requirements and are submitted on time
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for institutional and philanthropic donors
  • Maintain regular communication with donors and nurture long-term partnerships
  • Coordinate donor reporting processes in collaboration with finance and M&E teams
  • Ensure narrative and financial reports are accurate, compelling, and compliant with donor requirements
  • Manage grant compliance obligations, including milestone reporting, audits, and budget revisions
  • Maintain organized grants management systems and documentation
  • Support donor site visits, presentations, and participation in conservation finance events
  • Support the establishment and operationalization of the CWMAC Conservation Trust Fund
  • Identify and cultivate relationships with potential anchor donors and long-term investors
  • Assist in developing communication materials, investment prospectuses, and engagement tools for the Trust Fund
  • Develop and maintain evidence-based fundraising and donor engagement materials
  • Collaborate with communications and M&E teams to produce impact reports, success stories, and fundraising content
  • Contribute to the development of the annual State of WMAs report
  • Represent CWMAC at donor, conservation, and networking events
  • Ensure fundraising activities comply with organizational policies and Tanzanian regulations
  • Work closely with the Finance and Administration Manager to ensure budget accuracy and grant accountability
  • Provide regular fundraising updates and strategic recommendations to senior management

Qualifications or requirements 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Development Studies, Environmental Science, Business Administration, International Relations, or a related field
  • Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in fundraising, resource mobilization, or grants management within the NGO, conservation, or international development sector
  • Proven track record of securing grants from institutional donors, bilateral agencies, multilateral organizations, or conservation foundations
  • Excellent written communication skills in English
  • Strong understanding of Logical Framework Approach (LFA) and Results-Based Management (RBM) principles
  • Experience managing active grants, including compliance monitoring, budget tracking, and donor relationship management
  • Fluency in both English and Swahili, written and spoken
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
  • Familiarity with grant management systems or CRM tools
  • Strong strategic thinking and planning abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills
  • High level of personal organization and attention to detail
  • Genuine commitment to community-based conservation and sustainable development
  • High standards of integrity, accountability, and professionalism
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Adaptability and resilience in a dynamic working environment
