MEDICAL DOCTOR

Number of Posts: 1

Job Purpose

The Medical Doctor will provide comprehensive medical care to patients, including diagnosis, treatment, prevention of illness, emergency care, and follow-up. The doctor will work collaboratively with nurses, specialists, laboratory staff, radiographers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure safe and effective patient care.

Key Responsibilities

  • Examine patients and obtain comprehensive medical histories.
  • Diagnose and manage a wide range of medical conditions.
  • Develop appropriate treatment and management plans for patients.
  • Prescribe medicines and other treatments in accordance with professional standards.
  • Provide emergency medical care and respond appropriately to critical cases.
  • Request and interpret relevant laboratory, radiological, and other diagnostic investigations.
  • Perform appropriate medical procedures within the scope of professional competence.
  • Monitor patients' progress and modify treatment plans where necessary.
  • Refer patients to specialists or higher-level facilities when required.
  • Provide appropriate inpatient and outpatient care.
  • Participate in ward rounds and clinical reviews.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and confidential patient records.
  • Provide health education and counselling to patients and their families.
  • Promote preventive healthcare and disease prevention practices.
  • Participate in maternal, child health, community health, and other hospital programmes where required.
  • Work closely with nurses and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care.
  • Participate in medical emergencies, on-call duties, and other hospital assignments.
  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Comply with hospital policies, professional ethics, and applicable health regulations.
  • Participate in continuing professional development and clinical training.
  • Perform any other duties relevant to the position as assigned by hospital management.

Requirements

  • Degree in Medicine or an equivalent recognised medical qualification.
  • Valid registration with the relevant professional regulatory authority in Tanzania.
  • Valid practising licence.
  • Relevant clinical experience is an advantage.
  • Good clinical judgement and diagnostic skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to professional ethics, patient confidentiality, and quality healthcare.
