Wine To Water is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic professional for the position of General Manager for its Water Center based in Arusha, Tanzania. The organization is looking for a strategic leader capable of overseeing daily operations while delivering high-quality guest experiences and advancing the organization’s mission of providing clean water solutions.

The General Manager will be responsible for providing overall leadership, managing operations, coordinating staff, and developing partnerships that support both guest engagement and organizational sustainability. The role combines operational management, hospitality leadership, fundraising, and storytelling to enhance visitor experience and strengthen support for Water To Water’s global water initiatives.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Coordinate all logistics, scheduling, inventory management, site development, maintenance, and retail shop operations at the Water Center
  • Collaborate with US operations, global shipping, and finance teams to ensure operational sustainability
  • Lead development of immersive and innovative guest engagement experiences
  • Host high-profile guests and visiting groups
  • Establish protocols and best practices for group facilitation
  • Train and supervise staff to deliver impactful workshops and guest experiences
  • Inspire guests to engage with and support the organization’s mission
  • Maintain ongoing communication and reporting with global teams and partners
  • Foster relationships with donors, sponsors, corporate partners, and stakeholders
  • Support donor engagement strategies and CRM systems (including Salesforce)
  • Integrate storytelling into guest experiences and follow-up engagement
  • Support fundraising activities and water projects in Tanzania
  • Manage budgets, revenue generation, and financial reporting
  • Ensure cost optimization and financial sustainability of operations
  • Recruit, train, and mentor staff to ensure high performance and cultural alignment
  • Enforce operational standards, best practices, and service quality protocols
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and local regulations
  • Maintain quality control standards for operational processes and production activities

Experience needed

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a similar leadership role
  • Proven experience in tourism, hospitality, or high-end lodge operations
  • Strong leadership and general management experience

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality, Tourism, Business, or related field

Skills

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong fundraising and revenue management capabilities
  • Ability to manage cross-cultural teams and international stakeholders
  • Strong project management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt in a dynamic environment
  • High level of cultural sensitivity and emotional intelligence
  • Strong writing, presentation, and communication skills in English
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and digital tools
