Role Overview:

The Electrician is responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electrical systems, equipment, and infrastructure across the mining site and processing plant. This includes both high-voltage and low-voltage systems, plant electrical panels, motors, MCCs, generators, lighting networks, wiring, and control systems critical to safe and continuous mining operations. Other activities might be assigned by the management. The role requires strong technical competency, the ability to work in a fast-paced mining environment, and adherence to strict safety standards. Proficiency in both Swahili and English is required, along with practical experience in a mining company or heavy industrial facility.

Regular exposure to indoor and outdoor work environments, continuous industrial noise, electrical hazards, rotating machinery, elevated work areas, dust, vibration, fuel, and chemical exposure. Work may involve confined spaces, heights, and interaction with heavy equipment. The company maintains a safety-sensitive environment, enforcing a zero-tolerance policy toward alcohol, illegal substances, or unauthorized drugs/paraphernalia. All employees must comply with company rules and participate in safety meetings and inspections.

The employee is required to stay at the mine site during rotations. Accommodation is provided at the Company camp in Chunya, Mbeya Region, Tanzania. The role requires adaptability to remote site living, teamwork, and structured shift schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and components on mining equipment, processing plant machinery, workshops, and camp facilities.
  • Diagnose electrical faults, conduct troubleshooting, and perform corrective and preventive maintenance on motors, control panels, MCCs, VFDs, wiring systems, distribution boards, and lighting networks.
  • Perform regular inspections of electrical installations, identify defects or safety risks, and recommend corrective measures.
  • Maintain, repair, and test plant electrical equipment such as crushers, mills, conveyors, pumps, compressors, granulators, agitators, generators, elution.
  • Install wiring, cable trays, conduits, sockets, switches, lighting, and grounding systems according to electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Ensure proper operation and servicing of generators, backup power systems, switchgear, and distribution lines.
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and manufacturer manuals.
  • Conduct lock-out/tag-out procedures before performing any electrical work and ensure compliance with all electrical safety protocols.
  • Assist during new equipment installation, commissioning, calibration, and integration into the plant system.
  • Test and verify repaired electrical equipment for functional performance and compliance with operational standards.
  • Support troubleshooting of process control systems, sensors, relays, PLC-linked devices, and instrumentation where applicable.
  • Respond promptly to electrical emergencies, power outages, faults, and breakdowns to minimize plant downtime.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance tasks, inspections, parts usage, and electrical reports.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of preventive maintenance schedules for all electrical assets on site.
  • Ensure safe use of electrical tools, measuring instruments (multimeters, clamp meters, megger testers), and PPE.
  • Maintain a clean and organized electrical workshop and participate in site housekeeping efforts.
  • Collaborate closely with mechanics, plant operators, welders, and supervision to ensure seamless coordination.
  • Report all hazards, unsafe conditions, electrical risks, or malfunctioning equipment immediately.
  • Perform additional tasks, overtime, and emergency call-outs as assigned by management.
  • Communicate effectively in Swahili and English, providing clear updates on work progress, risks, and equipment conditions.
