The Venn department is the data and technology backbone of our organization, connecting advanced analytics and custom software tools with field implementation to ensure data-informed decision-making at every level.

Job Summary

Venn conducts several surveys to gather essential data for monitoring and evaluating Raising The Village (RTV) programs. These surveys inform program design, resource planning, and the assessment of organizational reach.

Part-time Data Collectors play a crucial role in fieldwork operations by collecting and ensuring the accuracy of data under the guidance and supervision of the RTV Venn team. Adhering to RTV’s ethical guidelines and procedures, Part-time Data Collectors will support survey execution and contribute to high-quality data collection.

Responsibilities or duties

  • Attend comprehensive training on evaluation procedures and the use of digital data collection tools.
  • Participate in pretesting of tools to ensure their reliability and functionality before deployment.
  • Conduct informed consent processes with local leadership and survey participants before starting data collection.
  • Arrange and conduct interviews in accordance with established guidelines and tools.
  • Implement the assigned work plan while meeting daily and overall targets.
  • Ensure all data collected is accurate, complete, and cleaned before submission.
  • Review collected data to verify accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Safeguard respondent confidentiality and adhere to data ethics by following secure data handling and storage protocols.
  • Maintain and care for assigned data collection tools, including tablets, chargers, power banks, and bags, to ensure they remain in good working condition throughout the data collection period.
  • Perform any additional job-related duties as assigned by the lead RTV personnel.

Experience needed

  • Previous experience in data collection and management is an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in probing techniques during interviews and surveys.
  • Proven ability to work with minimal supervision while achieving set targets.
  • Prior experience in research methods is an added advantage.
  • Proficiency in Excel and digital data collection tools, especially SurveyCTO and Survey123.
  • Preferably a resident of the stated district

Skills and Competencies

  • Physical ability to travel extensively and work in remote, hard-to-reach areas for long hours on foot.
  • Strong teamwork and independent work capabilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to upholding data ethics and moral values in rural community settings.
  • Demonstrated integrity and ability to maintain the organization’s credibility within partner communities.
  • Fluency in Kiswahili is a MUST, and a good working knowledge of English is preferred
