Background

Mkulazi Holding Company Limited (MHCL) is inviting qualified Tanzanians to apply for the position of DCS Operator – Evaporator. The successful candidate will report to the Supervisor – Juice Clarification and Evaporation and will be responsible for operating and monitoring plant processes through Distributed Control Systems (DCS) to ensure efficient and stable production operations.

The role requires strong experience in process plant operations and control room systems, with the ability to monitor, adjust, and optimize production parameters across multiple sections of the sugar manufacturing process. The selected candidate will ensure smooth plant performance, quick response to process deviations, and compliance with safety and environmental standards.

Key duties and responsibilities include:

• Operating and monitoring plant processes through Distributed Control Systems (DCS) or SCADA systems in the control room
• Adjusting process parameters to ensure optimal plant and equipment performance
• Monitoring boilers, power generation systems, milling operations, clarification, evaporation, crystallization, and water treatment systems
• Ensuring smooth start-up, operation, and shutdown of plant equipment in accordance with procedures
• Monitoring alarms, production indicators, and emergency conditions and taking corrective action
• Coordinating with field operators and process technicians for operational adjustments
• Recording production data, downtime events, and process deviations for reporting purposes
• Conducting routine system checks and reporting abnormalities or maintenance needs to engineers
• Ensuring compliance with environmental standards including effluent and emission control
• Supporting safety, health, and environmental practices in control room operations
• Participating in shift handover procedures and ensuring effective communication between shifts
• Supervising and guiding subordinate staff during shifts
• Performing any other lawful duties assigned by the supervisor

Qualifications and requirements:

• Form Four (IV) certificate
• Minimum of three (3) years working experience in process plant operations, preferably in the sugar industry
• Experience in control room operations or DCS/SCADA systems will be an added advantage
• Possession of National Sugar Institute (NSI) Certificate will be an added advantage
• Strong understanding of industrial process control systems
• Ability to monitor, interpret, and adjust production parameters effectively
• Good communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills
