The Crane Lifting Superintendent is responsible for the safe management and supervision of all cranes and lifting operations on site, ensuring compliance with company standards, procedures, and Tanzanian regulatory requirements. The role oversees lifting activities for both Sotta Mining personnel and subcontractors, promoting safety, efficiency, and operational excellence.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Ensure all cranes and lifting devices are in safe working conditions and formally commissioned on arrival.
  • Develop and maintain crane lift logbooks, lifting equipment registers, pre-starts, and inspection forms.
  • Supervise crane operators and riggers, assisting with rosters and manpower planning.
  • Generate and coordinate lifting schedules in alignment with site and subcontractor activities.
  • Oversee all lifts to ensure compliance with company policies, design limits, and safety standards.
  • Assist with maintenance scheduling, breakdown management, and spare parts planning.
  • Conduct pre-start meetings, toolbox talks, and participate in HSE Committee sessions.
  • Train, mentor, and assess personnel to improve lifting competency and safety awareness.
  • Implement contingency plans and ensure readiness for emergency situations.

Qualification/Experience

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in crane operations or lifting management, preferably in mining or heavy industry.
  • Heavy Combination (HC) and Heavy Rigid (HR) truck licenses.
  • Certificate III in Construction Crane Operations (CPC32912).
  • Intermediate rigging accreditation and a dogging license.
  • Strong planning, organizational, interpersonal, and ethical standards.
  • Must read and write fluent English.
  • Must be able to develop load lift studies.
  • Flexible, proactive, and able to work in a dynamic operational environment.
