PURPOSE OF THE JOB

We are looking to employ an Application Support Engineer to actively support our FIS AND SICPATRACE projects in Tanzania. The incumbent will:

  • Be responsible for responding to incidents and problems related FIS (Fuel Integrity Solution) projects and SICPATRACE projects.
  • On Solution Monitoring, must be competent in developing, customizing, and implementing solution monitoring capabilities. Continually automate detections and automate actions to improve the responsiveness to abnormal conditions and outages. Uses the solution monitoring regularly to drive analysis, troubleshooting and problem solving.
  • On Deployment, responsible for deploying new versions of FIS and SICPATRACE application modules. Competent with automation tools for scripting and automating deployment or system tasks or reconfigurations.
  • On Solution Quality Assurance, responsible to ensure that all changes, new releases are tested and validated in Site Acceptance Testing (SAT) before they are deployed to Operations production environments. Collaborate well with Service Centre, Field Service, Global L2 support and L2 dev teams.
  • On knowledge sharing and learning, responsible to document any technical issues, resolutions, workarounds, and improvements. Proactively shares knowledge with other Application Support engineers (local and globally). Possess a curious mindset that is always wanting to learn new things or making new improvements

ROLE

  • Troubleshoot, and resolve any application support issues quickly within response SLA.
  • Investigate and find root cause of application problem, especially critical and recurrent ones.
  • Perform quality assurance validation (SAT) of new release of applications prior to deployment to production.
  • Perform deployment of validated new releases of applications to local operations.
  • Collaborate with local operation and support teams to deliver support in a timely and effective manner.
  • Collaborate with global L2 support teams, L3 development teams to ensure escalation are managed effectively.
  • Collaborate with project teams for any deployment or implementation in new releases or new solution modules.
  • Document work instructions, procedures required for performing technical work that can be shared.
  • Train and coach new application support engineers in local operations.
  • Lead in the implementation and support of the Business Intelligence platform in the projects

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent degree in a technical discipline related to software engineering or equivalent combination of training and/or experience
  • At least 5 years of working experience, related to IT Application Support IT operations or System Administration. Experience in
  • Experience in troubleshooting or debugging applications and complex systems
  • Understand application tracing and log analysis
  • Strong knowledge of Linux and VM
  • Hands-on experience in Shell Scripts
  • Experience in application deployment, and deployment tools

Specific knowledge and skills linked to the work

  • Competent knowledge of at least a database (understand schema, able to perform DML using SQL)
  • Experience in programming and development at least one programming language (e.g. Python, C, Java, etc).
  • Experience with incident resolution and root cause analysis and incident management
  • Knowledge and experience in using JIRA, a ITSM ticketing tool and any documentation tools (e.g. Wiki)
  • Knowledge and experience in Nagios and Splunk or similar tools
  • Knowledge and experience in Dockers, OpenShift, Kubernetes or similar technologies
  • Excellent communication and English language skills.
