Position Title: Fitter Mechanic

Reports To: Mechanical Foreman / Maintenance Superintendent

Department: Engineering & Maintenance

Location: Workshop & Plant

Job Purpose:

To maintain, repair, and overhaul a wide range of heavy mining and plant machinery (e.g., pumps, conveyors, crushers, compressors, light vehicles) to ensure maximum equipment availability and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

• Diagnose mechanical faults and perform breakdown repairs on site equipment.
• Conduct scheduled preventive maintenance services and inspections.
• Fabricate, weld, and modify parts as required using workshop machinery.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, schematics, and manuals.
• Use precision measuring instruments for alignment and tolerances.
• Adhere strictly to safety procedures, including isolations and work permits (LOTO).
• Complete job cards and maintenance records in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).
• Work collaboratively in a team and provide guidance to apprentices or assistants.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Trade Test Certificate / Diploma in Fitting and Turning or Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum of 5 years of post-apprenticeship experience as a Fitter Mechanic.
• Substantial experience maintaining heavy fixed plant in mining, quarrying, or heavy industry is essential.
• Welding certification (Arc, MIG) and machining skills are highly desirable.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and a safety-focused mindset.
