The purpose of this internship is to provide support to the UNDP Tanzania Communications Unit in implementing its daily communication activities aimed at enhancing the visibility and outreach of UNDP’s work across digital and traditional platforms. The intern will assist in content creation, social media management, media monitoring, and visual storytelling, contributing to strategic communication efforts that amplify UNDP’s impact, results, and partnerships. This internship also offers a learning opportunity for a student or recent graduate to gain practical experience in development communications within a dynamic, multi-disciplinary UN environment.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Digital Media and Content Creation.
- Assist in drafting and editing social media content (Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook) in line with UNDP branding guidelines.
- Design infographics, quote cards, banners, and other digital assets for web and social media using tools such as Canva or Adobe Creative Suite.
- Support the creation and editing of video content, including short reels and testimonials.
2. Media Monitoring and Analysis.
- Monitor print, online, and broadcast media for coverage related to UNDP and its key thematic areas.
- Prepare daily or weekly media monitoring summaries.
- Track and compile analytics reports on digital engagement (social media and web).
3. Storytelling and Writing
- Support drafting of feature stories, human interest stories, news articles, and blog posts for the UNDP website and external platforms.
- Assist in collecting testimonials and quotes from beneficiaries during field visits.
4. Photography and Visual Documentations.
- Take photographs during events, workshops, and field missions (when applicable).
- Organize and catalog photo and video archives with proper metadata and captions.
5. Administrative and Logistical Support.
- Assist in coordinating communications-related events, campaigns, or media engagements.
- Support the organization of outreach activities, exhibitions, and launches.
6. Other Duties
- Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor that contribute to the goals of the Communications Unit.

Required Education, Experience and Skills.
Education:
- A bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, international relations, marketing, graphic designing, photography and videography, mass communications, development studies, or a related field.
Applicants to UNDP’s internship programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements
A) Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (such as bachelor’s degree or equivalent) in a recognized university.
B) Be enrolled in a postgraduate degree programme (such as a master’s programme, or higher) in a recognized university.
C) Have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined in (A) and (B) above) from a recognized university and, if selected, must start the internship within one-year after graduation.
Experience:
- Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills in English (Swahili an added advantage).
- Basic experience in graphic design (Canva, Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator).
- Ability to take and edit photographs and videos.
- Familiarity with social media platforms (Twitter/X, Instagram, LinkedIn, Facebook).
- Attention to detail, creativity, and ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
