WORKSHOP SUPERVISOR
Job Purpose
To coordinate and supervise daily workshop operations, ensuring the efficient maintenance and repair of tractors, heavy machinery, vehicles and related equipment.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and allocate daily workshop activities.
- Supervise mechanics, technicians, welders, electricians, tyre fitters and workshop assistants.
- Inspect machinery and vehicles to identify maintenance and repair requirements.
- Prioritise breakdowns and preventive-maintenance activities.
- Monitor the quality and timeliness of repairs.
- Ensure proper use and maintenance of workshop tools and equipment.
- Maintain workshop safety, cleanliness and housekeeping standards.
- Coordinate preventive-maintenance schedules.
- Review job cards and repair reports before equipment is released.
- Coordinate with operators and farm teams regarding machinery faults.
- Monitor spare-parts requirements and liaise with the stores/parts team.
- Maintain records of repairs, downtime, servicing and maintenance costs.
- Investigate recurring mechanical problems and recommend corrective action.
- Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements.
- Train and mentor junior workshop staff.
- Prepare workshop performance reports for management.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Plant Engineering or a related field.
- Relevant workshop supervisory experience, preferably in agricultural or heavy-equipment operations.
- Strong knowledge of tractors, heavy machinery and vehicle maintenance.
