Position Purpose:
Responsible for the day-to-day planning and organizing of underground mining operations, ensuring compliance with Mines Safety Regulations and Acts. Responsibilities include rostering of staff and ensuring adequate resources are available to meet production and development requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Promptly act on any safety issues that arise, ensuring accident/incident reporting is carried out and followed up.
  • Supervise Underground Shift Supervisors and provide direction and assistance with planning of mining activities in accordance with the Mines Safety Regulations and Acts.
  • Read mining laws and safety regulations and issue directives to workers to ensure adherence to applicable rules and regulations.
  • Identify critical risks and put controls in place to eliminate them.
  • Plan and coordinate activities of personnel engaged in underground mining activities.
  • Coordinate manpower, roster preparation, annual leave scheduling, and assist with employment/deployment of workforce.
  • Carry out regular inspections of plant and equipment and communicate with the Maintenance Department regularly on equipment scheduling.
  • Liaise with appropriate client contacts, ensuring expectations are realistic and projected targets are achieved safely and to specifications.
  • Review data, such as maps, survey reports, and geological records, and consult with engineering, maintenance, and supervisory personnel to plan and direct mine development.
  • Review and consolidate records, such as safety reports and production records.
  • Ensure inventory is correctly accounted for on a shift-by-shift basis.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years’ exposure to the underground mining industry is required for this position.
  • Production and development background with operator experience.
  • Ability to communicate verbally.
  • Ability to handle conflict and disputes.
  • Ability to listen and take instructions and work in a team.
  • Ability to assess mining working conditions and environment.
  • Ability to recognize potential mining hazards and risks.
  • Ability to identify potential hazards and minimize risks.
  • Understanding of appropriate statutory and mining regulations.
  • Understanding of both equipment and human resource capability and productivities.
  • Ability to assess people’s performance and potential.
  • Ability to coordinate activities and schedule labor.
  • Ability to implement and maintain mining training programs.
  • Ability to set high standards, work expectations, and accountability.
  • Ability to attend to housekeeping.
  • Understanding of mining equipment application.
  • Ability to optimize mine production.
  • Understanding of drilling and blasting techniques.
  • Understanding of explosives.
  • Valid Tanzanian Driver’s License and good driving skills.
  • Senior First Aid Certificate.
