Job Purpose

The Specialist, Middleware Support ensures the stability, performance, and availability of enterprise middleware platforms such as WebSphere, WebLogic, Kafka, and JBoss.

The role provides technical expertise in installation, configuration, monitoring, and troubleshooting, supporting Enterprise Middleware technologies across the bank.

Principle Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, upgrade, patch, and maintain middleware platforms including but not limited to IBM WebSphere, Oracle WebLogic, JBoss/WildFly, Apache Kafka, and other integration technologies.
  • Perform day-to-day administration and operational support of the Bank's middleware environments, ensuring maximum uptime and service availability.
  • Proactively monitor middleware infrastructure, identify potential issues, and take preventive actions to maintain optimal system performance and stability.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve middleware-related incidents and service disruptions, escalating complex issues to vendors or higher support levels when required.
  • Optimize middleware configurations and performance through capacity planning, tuning, and implementation of best practices for scalability, reliability, and efficiency.
  • Implement and maintain middleware security controls, patches, and vulnerability remediation activities in compliance with the Bank's information security policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support application deployment activities and collaborate with Development, Infrastructure, Database, and Application Support teams to ensure seamless integration and system functionality.
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and tools to streamline middleware administration, deployment, monitoring, and operational processes.
  • Establish and maintain backup, recovery, and disaster recovery procedures for middleware systems to ensure business continuity.
  • Create, maintain, and regularly update technical documentation, including system configurations, standard operating procedures, architecture diagrams, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Participate in system upgrades, migrations, projects, and change management activities while ensuring minimal impact on business operations.
  • Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) for recurring incidents and implement corrective actions to improve system stability and service quality.
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies, technology standards, audit requirements, and regulatory guidelines applicable to the banking industry

Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Information technology or related field.
  • ICT Service Management ITILv3 certifications.
  • Knowledge of Linux, AIX and Solaris operating systems.
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in middleware administration and support.
  • Professional certifications in middleware or related technologies such as IBM WebSphere Application Server, Oracle WebLogic Server, Red Hat JBoss, Apache Kafka, or IBM MQ will be an added advantage.
  • Strong understanding of middleware systems e.g. (WebSphere, IBM MQ, WebLogic, Kafka, JBoss).
  • Proficiency in Linux, Unix and Windows server environments
  • Familiarity with messaging systems, APIs, and integrations.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools such as Shell Scripting, Python, Ansible, or similar technologies for system administration, deployment, and operational efficiency.
