Job Summary
RETOMINING Investment Limited is seeking a competent, safety-conscious, and experienced Plant and Equipment Operator to join our mining operations team. The successful candidate will be responsible for safely and efficiently operating, inspecting, and caring for heavy mining machinery and processing plant equipment to support reliable and productive quarry operations. This role requires a person who is technically capable, physically fit, disciplined, and committed to high standards of workplace safety, equipment care, fuel/production efficiency, and environmental protection.
Key Responsibilities
1. Operation of Heavy Equipment & Processing Plant
- Safely operate assigned mining and plant machinery (e.g., excavators, wheel loaders, bulldozers, motor graders, dump trucks, crushing/screening plants, conveyors, pumps, and generators).
- Perform loading, excavation, hauling, stockpiling, feeding, crushing, and screening activities in compliance with operating procedures and manufacturer limits.
- Maintain appropriate operating speeds and loads to prevent equipment damage, avoid accidents, and ensure fuel/resource efficiency.
2. Pre-Operational Inspections & Maintenance Support
- Conduct thorough daily pre-start inspections checking engine oil, hydraulic fluid, coolant, fuel levels, batteries, tires/tracks, brakes, lights, alarms, and emergency systems.
- Inspect machinery for leaks, loose components, structural cracks, or abnormal noises, logging findings in equipment registers.
- Perform basic operator-level maintenance including routine greasing, cleaning, fluid top-ups, and minor adjustments.
- Keep machinery clean and promptly report mechanical, hydraulic, or electrical defects to the maintenance team without conducting unauthorized repairs.
3. Production Efficiency & Record Keeping
- Operate machinery efficiently to meet daily quarry production targets while minimizing equipment idling and downtime.
- Accurately track and record operating hours, daily output, fuel consumption, and equipment issues in logbooks.
4. Safety, HSE & Site Compliance
- Observe site traffic rules, speed limits, exclusion zones, and safe distance protocols from personnel, vehicles, high-voltage lines, and excavation edges.
- Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times and adhere to zero-tolerance policies regarding substance use while operating machinery.
- Attend toolbox talks, safety inductions, and emergency drills. Immediately stop operations if unsafe ground or mechanical conditions occur.
- Support environmental measures including dust suppression, waste management, land protection, and preventing fuel/oil spills.
Qualifications & Experience
Essential Qualifications
- Education: Certificate or Diploma in Heavy Equipment Operation, Plant Operation, Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Licensing: Valid and relevant operator’s license/certificate required by Tanzanian regulations.
- Experience: Demonstrated practical experience operating heavy machinery or mineral processing plant equipment within a quarrying, mining, construction, or heavy industrial environment.
- Technical Understanding: Basic knowledge of equipment mechanics, fluid levels, hydraulic/electrical systems, and pre-start inspection procedures.
Equipment Operating Background
Direct operational experience with one or more of the following will be a strong advantage:
- Excavators, Wheel Loaders, or Front-End Loaders
- Dump Trucks, Bulldozers, or Motor Graders
- Crushing & Screening Plants, Conveyor Systems, Pumps, or Heavy Generators
Key Competencies & Personal Attributes
- Safety & Hazard Awareness: Deep commitment to occupational safety, mine-site traffic safety, and safe material handling.
- Equipment Care & Maintenance: Sharp diagnostic eye for identifying mechanical faults, fluid leaks, and structural wear.

- Teamwork & Communication: Strong communication skills using two-way radios, active participation in toolbox meetings, and seamless coordination with ground personnel.
