Job Summary

RETOMINING Investment Limited is seeking a technically capable, safety-conscious, and experienced Mine Engineer / Geologist to join our mining operations team.

The successful candidate will support and coordinate geological and mining activities, including mineral resource assessment, mine planning, extraction, production monitoring, geological mapping, sampling, quality control, and technical reporting. This role is vital to ensuring granite mining activities are conducted safely, efficiently, economically, and in full compliance with Tanzanian laws, environmental standards, and company policies.

Key Responsibilities

1. Mine Planning & Production

  • Assist in preparing, implementing, and reviewing short-, medium-, and long-term mine plans and efficient extraction sequences.
  • Prepare and monitor daily, weekly, monthly, and annual production plans against targets.
  • Determine and oversee excavation, drilling, blasting, loading, hauling, crushing, and stockpiling requirements.
  • Monitor pit development, working faces, benches, ramps, haul roads, and stockpile areas to optimize resource utilization.

2. Geological Exploration & Resource Assessment

  • Conduct geological mapping, face inspections, rock face observations, and structural evaluations.
  • Collect representative geological samples following approved sampling procedures and maintain database registers.
  • Interpret geological data to update models, estimate resources, and support mine planning and continuous exploration.

3. Mine Surveying & Pit Development

  • Partner with survey personnel to establish boundaries, pit limits, bench heights, and slope stability.
  • Compare actual mining progress against approved designs, recommend corrective actions, and reconcile mined quantities.

4. Drilling & Blasting Coordination

  • Plan and supervise drilling activities (patterns, depths, and spacing) in line with technical standards.
  • Coordinate with authorized blasting personnel to ensure safe, effective operations, assessing fragmentation, vibration, and fly-rock.
  • Provide technical recommendations to improve blast performance while minimizing rock losses and safety hazards.

5. Rock Quality & Product Control

  • Monitor granite quality/characteristics and classify materials according to production specifications.
  • Oversee feed material supplied to crushing plants and investigate quality variations to ensure aggregate products meet client standards.

6. HSE, Risk & Environmental Management

  • Promote a strong safety culture and conduct hazard assessments, wall/pit stability inspections, and toolbox briefings.
  • Support dust, noise, waste, water, and fuel risk mitigation along with land rehabilitation and environmental compliance.
  • Immediately report unsafe ground conditions, hazards, near-misses, or environmental incidents.

7. Fleet Optimization & Technical Reporting

  • Work with management to optimize utilization of excavators, loaders, dump trucks, drill rigs, and crushers.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly technical reports, production statistics, maps, and geological documentation.

Qualifications & Practical Experience

Essential Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Mining Engineering, Geology, Geological Engineering, or a related field from a recognized university.

Professional Registration: Relevant registration/membership with an applicable professional body is an added advantage.

Technical Proficiency: Strong understanding of open-pit mining/quarrying operations, geological mapping, drilling/blasting, and HSE regulations.

Software Skills: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel) and relevant mining or geological software applications.

Preferred Experience

  • Practical background in any of the following areas will be considered a distinct advantage:
  • Granite or aggregate quarrying and open-pit mining operations.
  • Drilling and blasting operations, rock fragmentation, and crushing/screening processes.
  • Pit slope stability, geological mapping, sampling, and mineral resource assessment.
  • Mine surveying, production reconciliation, and technical reporting.
