Position Purpose

This position is responsible for diagnostic fault finding on mechanical and electrical systems, breakdown repairs, and servicing of light vehicle equipment as guided by the immediate supervisor and trainer.

Key Accountabilities

  • Complies with all HS&E policies, procedures, and instructions, including the correct use of safety devices and protective equipment, prompt reporting of hazardous situations that cannot be corrected personally, making necessary changes to eliminate or control hazards, and reporting any accidents or injuries immediately.
  • Complies with all company policies and procedures, as displayed and amended from time to time.
  • Takes reasonable care for their own safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions.
  • Performs pre-start checks and SWICs.
  • Ensures inspections and maintenance are carried out on all equipment before use.
  • Ensures all tools are serviceable and safe.
  • Works to minimize equipment downtime and maximize productivity.
  • Carries out standard workplace inspection practices and procedures and prepares areas for drilling, charging, or scraping in accordance with mine safety procedures.
  • Maintains a high standard of housekeeping.
  • Liaises with the underground shift supervisor to:
    • Ensure all work is done in a safe and efficient manner.
    • Advise when items of equipment are out of service and when they can be returned to service.

Key Performance Tasks

  • Carries out scheduled servicing of mobile equipment in a safe manner and in accordance with the service sheet.
  • Utilizes skill and experience to create minimum downtime on machinery.
  • Ensures correct recording of maintenance is achieved.
  • Maintains a high level of housekeeping in the workshop and working areas at all times, ensuring all parts are kept at minimum stock levels.
  • Reads and interprets service and spare parts manuals.
  • Reports all equipment faults to the Maintenance Supervisor/Foreman for scheduling into the workshop.
  • Ensures site and maintenance procedures are maintained.
  • Assists with training other tradespeople to support a constructive team environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Strong background working with underground mobile mining equipment, including Toyota.
  • At least 2 years of post-apprenticeship experience.
  • Competent in auto electrics and diesel engine maintenance.
  • Willingness to learn and improve skills to gain further experience with mobile equipment.
  • Basic First Aid knowledge.
  • Valid Tanzanian Driver’s License.
  • Completed secondary school.
  • Relevant trade qualification.
  • Basic numeracy and verbal/written English skills.
