JOB TITLE: Workshop Supervisor
Supervises: N/A Work Location: HESU HQ
Job Purpose:
The Workshop Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily workshop operations while ensuring strict compliance with Health, Environment, Safety, and Utilities (HESU) standards. The role ensures that all maintenance and repair activities are performed efficiently, safely, and in line with company policies, legal requirements, and best practices
Key Responsibilities:
- Workshop Operations & Supervision
- Supervise and coordinate daily workshop activities, including preventive maintenance, breakdown repairs, inspections, and tyre management for fleet vehicles and equipment.
- Allocate work tasks to technicians and mechanics based on skill level, workload, and priorities, and monitor progress against agreed timelines.
- Ensure optimal utilization of manpower, tools, equipment, and workshop facilities to maximize productivity and minimize downtime.
- Inspect defective spares, validate repair or replacement requirements, and verify that all issued spare parts are correctly installed, tested, and recorded before releasing vehicles or equipment for operation.
- Inspect and verify the quality of completed work before releasing vehicles or equipment for operation.
- Coordinate with the breakdown team to ensure timely repair and return of vehicles or equipment to operation.
- Coordinate with transport team and operations teams to plan maintenance schedules and address urgent repairs.
- HESU Compliance & Safety Management
- Enforce compliance with HESU policies, procedures, and statutory regulations.
- Conduct regular safety toolbox talks, inspections, and risk assessments.
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and accidents, and implement corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate HESU records, permits, and safety documentation.
- Environmental & Utilities Control
- Ensure proper waste management, including disposal of oils, chemicals, tyres and scrap materials.
- Monitor and control workshop utilities (water, electricity, compressed air) to minimize wastage.
- Promote environmentally responsible practices within the workshop.
- Equipment, Tools & Housekeeping
- Ensure workshop tools, machinery, and lifting equipment are well maintained and certified.
- Maintain high standards of housekeeping (5S) within the workshop.
- Report faulty or unsafe equipment and arrange repairs or replacements.
- Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly workshop and HESU reports.
- Update and close job cards in the ERP system, ensuring real-time (live) reporting of maintenance activities, parts usage, and completion status.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, service histories, safety checklists, and inspection reports within the ERP and manual filing systems.
- Support internal and external audits related to safety, environment, and operations.
- Team Leadership & Training
- Supervise, coach, and mentor workshop staff on technical and HESU matters.
- Identify training needs and support skills development.
- Enforce discipline, attendance, and adherence to company procedures.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or Certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
- Formal training or certification in HESU / HSE is an added advantage.
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in a workshop environment, with supervisory experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of workshop safety standards and maintenance practices.
Skills & Competencies
- Strong leadership and supervisory skills.
- Good knowledge of HESU regulations and best practices.
- Ability to identify hazards and implement preventive measures.
- Good communication, reporting, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
